RSVP only. Great fish quality! The only down size is they are a bit slow if you are in a hurry. It's a very nice husband and wife team running the restaurant.

All these great reviews are spot on, and you shouldn’t think otherwise. This is the 2nd time coming here with my family and it doesn’t disappoint. So now let me add another 5-star review, to the already many well earned 5-star reviews.
Both times coming here we opted for their 12 piece omakase course with assorted appetizers. Rather than keep repeating the other great reviews on how good the fish tasted, and how fresh the fish was, I’d like to bring attention to how good the rice being used was. Sushi lovers typically focus on the fish, but at the end of the day, fresh fish, is fresh fish… In my opinion, I agree with the notion that it’s the rice that truly makes or breaks the nigiri. And however way the Chef makes his rice is really exceptional, in addition to using the right amount with each piece. Include this with very cold beer, and now you have a winning combination.
In addition to the food, I appreciated the comfortable atmosphere Taira has. Sometimes when we would try other omakase places, the atmosphere was a little too pretentious, just to justify the higher price point.
Thank you Ben and Ayako for another great family sushi night, and next time we will definitely opt for the bar, lol.

5/5 Omakase Experience!
Such a great omakase experience in a cozy, intimate setting. The place is run by a wonderful couple, and Chef Ben truly puts a personal touch into every bite—each piece was thoughtful and delicious. Definitely an ideal spot for a date night or a small birthday gathering with your closest friends. Don’t forget to make a reservation—last call is at 9:30PM. Highly recommend!

This is Michelin recommended restaurant. It was well worth the wait to get the reservation for my birthday meal. Their omakase price was in the ball park of $80+. I spent way more than that though. The chef and his wife are the only ones working here. The put so much time and detail into the food. The sushi was amazing. The chef makes his own sauces. I also thought it was so sweet that he whipped up a yuzu dessert after he found out it was my birthday. I also thought it was creative that a piece of the nigiri he made did not have any soy sauce. Instead, he added salt to it, and it was really good. My favorite was the nigiri piece that had truffle. This is a place definitely worth coming back for to see what else the chef will serve up.
This is a small restaurant and they only take so many reservations each night. I recommend make reservations at least 3 weeks out.

Absolutely blown away by this hidden gem of a sushi restaurant, owned and run by the sweetest Japanese couple. The quality of the sushi here is genuinely top-tier — freshest fish and the great rice (the sushi rice makes or breaks). You can tell there’s a lot of care and pride in what they serve.
Their omakase is an absolute steal for the quality and quantity you get. It’s hands down the best value omakase we’ve found in Southern California.
Don’t sleep on the appetizers either. The chicken nanban is a must-try: crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced with their house tartar sauce. Every dish hits the mark.
It’s rare to find a spot that combines this level of quality with such warmth and authenticity. This place deserves all the hype — best sushi in SoCal, no contest.

We finally got a reservation just in time for my mom’s birthday and it was perfect. We liked how comfortable the small dining room was. But most importantly the food! Omg the food was so so good! We got the omakase and added the appetizer plate. I’ve never had such delicious pickled vegetables before. They were so complex. Every single piece of sushi was the perfect bite. We had halibut, toro, amberjack, trout. You can taste how much care the chef gave to each delicious morsel. Theres only one sushi chef and two staff who make sure there’s prompt service but not overbearing. I highly recommend Taira. Reservations are required.

Imagine being friends with a
great sushi chef, and being invited to a private dinner party at his house. This is the Taira experience. I almost don't want to post a review because our first dinner there was so special. Just go there and you will
see that no review does it justice....

Went 2 Wednesdays in a row, it was that good. If my paycheck would allow it, I'd be there every week! The food is phenomenal, just simply the freshest fish I've ever had in my life. Omakase is the way to go, and just sit and enjoy! So happy to have found this spot and looking forward to all my future reservations here!

We did the counter omakase with a few starters, we were the first in around 530. Excellent hot green tea with lots of refills, the waitress was very attentive and the chef introduced every dish with the type of fish and place of origin. Started out with the 10 piece but changed our minds to 12 piece after the first few because all the textures and flavors were so excellent. Recommend the pickled tomatoes and sesame tofu in addition to the omakase.
