Dear Owner. I hope this image ring a bell. The lies people tell.In response to Matthew Soul's reply to my previous review, I want to address the inaccuracies. They claimed that I ate everything, which is false. I did consume the sandwich until the last few bites, despite it being moldy, and I explained this to them “clearly” the poboy was actually good until I saw the mold on the bread. However, we only partially ate the fried chicken. Additionally, we ordered short ribs with three sides, but we didn't eat any of it. Yuck!! We were disgusted.I turned to Google because the owner was refusing to refund me fully. Initially, they only agreed to refund the sandwich with the moldy bread. I informed them that if the bread was moldy, it's likely the other items were expired as well. Consequently, I demanded a full refund, threatening to escalate the issue on Google if necessary. To all reading this, It's important to inspect your food before consuming it, especially when supporting small businesses with little business. The only reason why I choose to support this place is because every time I pass by this establishment, it's always empty, which now raises concerns about the freshness of their food.Good luck if you choose to eat at this place.

Went there today just before closing. Purchased oxtails with candied yams & rice and gravy. Excellent tasting, the gravy was delicious oxtails were falling off the bones and the candied yams were very good also. Did not really like the corn bread dressing. The hostess, Star was very friendly and welcoming. I'm from the Chi and recommend it highly. Price was right also.Looking for good food check Matthews at 2222 W. Rosecran out. They also have delivery. Thanks Star, MickeyParking: Many

I'm not one to write negative reviews about small black-owned businesses, but I’m just here to remind everyone to always check their food before eating it.Despite finding MOLD on the bread in my catfish po'boy, I'm giving this place a 3-star rating because the customer service was exceptional. Both the waitress and chef were very kind and accommodating.

This was last year 2022 Thanksgiving dinner catered by Matthew's. They are so accommodating all the way up until the day of, you can pick food up. Everything was fresh and prepared on time with specific instructions for each dish. The food was delicious good to warm the soul, tasty enough to bring the family together on such an occasion. The restaurant is easy to locate with plenty of parking and setting inside. I can't say enough about the pleasant and down to earth family vibes you get from the staff. I would diffidently recommend this place, specially for catering, holidays or special orders. I would also try their peach cobbler pancakes. Lastly, I would consider them for a place to have dinners party's, community gatherings or business meetings. Price point good.

I Love this Place. I come here at least twice a week ( but I work out ). Michelle is the Greatest and I always appreciate her and her staffs attention and Greta service skills. It's a large enough space for a party or an amazing Brunch or celebration. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do when you come.

Pros: So, the UberEats delivery was surprisingly quick, which was a good start. The catfish was alright, but it didn't exactly blow me away. As for the grits, they were just okay. The standout here was the Krave mix; that was the one thing I truly enjoyed.Cons: Unfortunately, the other dishes didn't quite live up to expectations. I had high hopes for the oxtail plate, but it lacked seasoning. The cornbread was so dry and hard it could double as a weapon, and the Mac and cheese was a letdown. Even the eggs were a bit on the bland side. All in all, I really tried to like this place, but given that I shelled out over $60, I have to say it just wasn't worth it.

We met my friend there while we were visiting California. The staff was very kind and helpful. They were having an issue with their POS system, so we had to order through the Uber app. Hopefully, they were able to fix it. My husband and I are from Hawaii and don't often eat at places like this. It was a treat, though. Not crowded at all on this Suday afternoon. I had the catfish. It was breaded and cooked perfectly. There is so much flavor and so moist. I also really enjoyed the collard greens. My husband had the other fish. I believe it was snapper. he also enjoyed that and said it was cooked well, moist, and very tasty as well. We would eat there again.

Was in the mood for Catfish & Grits(after eating my oatmeal smh).Matthews delivered hot fish and creamy grits! Portion was right (2 fish fillets,). Food was HOT and FRESH : )2 cents: I see a lot of reviews complaining about the lack of salt in the food. I do agree (my grits were especially were “under” seasoned)… However, that was fine with meNothing ruins food faster than TOO MUCH SALT!!! : l I like “new school” soul food that doesn’t kill you, lol… We as folks have to remember, too much sugar & salt is what took out Big Mama LEG!!! I love this place and have been eating, you're for years. I will continue to eat here but their macaroni and cheese has changed. It went from creamy to very dry and bland. Please revamp that dish....
