It’s the only place that has this type of sushi. The sushi is rice-heavy, relatively large, and vinegary. They only take cash and they recommend ordering before coming. The sushi was delightfully packaged. Also, it is takeout only.

This is a little hidden gem in Gardena for boxed futomaki sushi that's been around since 1962!!!

Keep in mind, this is not your typical sushi with spicy tuna and nigiri. This is a certain tradition style of sushi with very well seasoned rice (vinegar) to keep it from spoiling. It's known as zoshi-sushi (pressed sushi).

The spot is run by ladies who look like they have been doing this for decades. The menu is super simple with just 6 different choices.

The rice here has plenty of vinegar so I can last and withstand the heat.

They offer mixed set boxes for a la carte create your own box sets. They also do bigger orders for parties and catering.

Everything here is absolutely delicious and reminds me of being back in Japan.

Trust me, try this traditional no frills spot for some of the best take out sushi.

Amazing sushi for a great price. This place is a small hole in the wall where you pay cash and pick up. They can run out quick so call ahead and early!

It’s almost an institution and great for what they are known for but I have a hard time ingesting more than 80% of my meal in the form of rice. ??

Sushi!!! I’m starving to death!! I’ve not visit Sakae sushi in a long time since when I was in 20’s great location to order sushi in the afternoons usually order by phone! Highly recommend for customers so many Japanese, Asian & Hispanic people craving for sushi!! Excellent service never gets old!! Great service atmosphere & next to that location is J-Wave (originally located in the Pacific Square Market) Very busy than usual!! Cash only as you see the sign!! 50 years old!! (If I remember correctly.) My favorite sushi is California roll!! That’s that!! I’ll call a lady to order sushi for lunch to-go or take out!! No credit or debit card accepted!! You have to wait for the line just pick up the order enjoy the sushi with your friends and family. Cheap price!! Have fun!! Happiest day ever!!

Parking: The parking is available with so much space. Not a problem at all.

Local spot to get to Togo sushi. Limited menu they have had for years but very simple and delicious. Prices have gone up up but quality has not gone down. A platter can usually be around 40 now to feed about 3-4 people. I usually go here for a lighter healthy option instead of fast food. Staff is friendly. No sit down. They can also take your order over the phone. There is a parking lot but it’s rather small. Give this hidden gem a try. Place closes early so order before 4 to possible get for dinner.

This old school take out sushi restaurant is run by the 3rd generation of the owners that served us when I was a kid. Have been buying and eating their sushi for 50+ years. This place is locally work famous and a local world treasure. Keep up the great work Sakae!

This place is exactly how everyone has described it. It’s incredible and affordable. The one thing I can attest to is how good the sushi is even after you’ve refrigerated it. Usually, the sushi rice would not be as good anymore once it’s been refrigerated. Not this sushi rice! It is incredible. It’s still soft and full of flavors. I just wish I lived closer to it! I’d go everyday!

This old school place exceeded all expectations. I couldn’t praise it enough, and I wish there were more spots like this one. I ordered a mixed box of 24 pieces, more than enough to satisfy two hungry bellies. The sushi was meticulously prepared and cut, resembling the work of a top master chef - each piece was laser-cut precise, with no variation in size, color, texture, or taste. Everything was as it should have been - fresh and delicious. In terms of value, you simply can’t find a better deal than this
