This is said to be the oldest and most beloved mochi shop in the area.
We picked up a 10-piece assortment that included ohagi, injeolmi mochi, steamed buns, and various manju.
The store itself looks like it’s barely hanging on—honestly, you might walk right past it if you didn’t know what you were looking for.
But the flavors are simple, clean, and feel homemade. No artificial aftertaste or overpowering sweetness—just old-school comfort.
I especially liked the ohagi and the cinnamon manju.
One of my companions loved the injeolmi mochi and also the cinnamon manju, while another really enjoyed the steamed bun and the white bean-filled manju.
If you appreciate traditional flavors and a nostalgic, home-style vibe, this place is worth checking out.
Can't say I agree with these high ratings. While I love to support small businesses, I'm not a fan of overrated places. I had much better Mochi... The Mochi is nothing to rave about here, I wouldn't say you are missing out on anything if you didn't make it here.
For what it was I thought it was on the pricier side; considering the selection is not as vast as other places. No Peanut Butter or fruit filled Mochi here. Also the location and the fact this is a run down hole in the wall. Finally, there is the Cash only business policy inconvenience.
One of the best traditional mochi spots!!!
Mochi is fresh with good, soft texture, but way too sweet and overpriced. Spent $21 for 7 pcs.
For $2.95 each, the mochi size is basic and overpriced. They’re about 1.5” diameter, same size and flavor as the 8-pack Shirakiku brand you get at the store so I’m not sure about the other reviews that say how “huge” the mochi is here.
The manju taste’s fine but also too sweet and nothing I’d order again. The only one that’s reasonably large and worth coming back for is the orange mochi.
I prefer the flavor and selection at Chikara Mochi next door. The price is about the same but I like their quality, flavor, and selection more.
This place is classic and ancient... don't go for the atmosphere and there's no place to sit. Just come for classic manju and mochi made in-house.
Cash only!
Their orange mochi is some of the best mochi I've ever had. It is a nice big size serving for the price. The associate was very knowledgeable describing each piece we inquired about. Cash only

I missed it first time passing thru because it was blocked by sketchy people waiting for the bus. When I turned around and parked, went in -saw it was cash or check only- so had to go find an ATM. But back. Pricey @$2.95/each or $35.40 dozen which was what I got. No discount at all ? I'd say it's good, softer and more sticky than other mochi I've ever had.. but not worth a long trip out. It's an hr. drive from me, but I had business/work nearby later that day so I could come early to try get some. Been trying to catch it for years as their open hours & my non-work hours never matched. It finally did & although was a real treat-my birthday gift to self, it's not that much special for the drive. I got pretty much 1 of each.. the best were the egg-like mung beans with sesame seeds, pink and orange mochi. I made mistake getting the red beans with sticky rice-don't recommend unless you're eating it right away.. it fermented more whilst inside the car as I was at work. The rest held well, may need 2 iced coolers packets not 1 small 1.
Parking: Street parking in front but it is on a VERY busy street and there's a bus stop in front so that's main annoyance.

Great handmade mochi with BIG servings. For $3 each the mochi were massive! The taste was not too sweet and I especially loved the orange mochi. They seem to sell out less quickly than chikara mochi down the street which is nice to have a selection later in the day. Do know it is a cash only establishment

Very simple place but very nice selection of Mochi. Reminded me when I was a kid. Remember only Cash and Checks had to go across the street to the market to get cash. They are going to make a great present for our neighbors who just went to Japan on vacation.
