I often go up and down on I-80 from San Francisco to Sacramento and back. Over the years, Cabalen has been one of my regular stops.

For a small space, these folks serve up quite an array of Filipino dishes and the turnover is brisk as they do a respectable amount of business, meaning that the food gets replenished often.

I believe they also have other outlets, one in Fairfield and another in Vallejo, but this is the joint with which I'm most familiar. The staff has always been friendly and inviting, in its purest form of Filipino hospitality.

I realize how hard it is to be in the restaurant business, what with finding reliable labor, rising prices of ingredients and the frugality of patrons, it's like walking on a knife's edge. For their longevity in staying in the game along with serving such a niche cuisine, I give these folks much respect and gratitude for representing Filipino food that is generally underrepresented in the general scheme of things.

I wish them continued success and good luck.

This review is for the catering aspect, and customer service in general. We had catering for a large event, and once these people have your money, they honestly do not care about you anymore. The day before the event, they called us to try to tack on $150 extra for food tray set up, which was never discussed previously with the owner when the food was originally paid for. They said the $1500+ that we spent, is only for cooking and transportation of the food (??) Chaffing dishes and sterno lamps are extra. Then on the day of, we noticed some sauces were missing, and the food trays are so shallow. Compared to other food caterers we’ve been to, the amount of food for that much money didn’t add up. We brought that up to the restaurant staff after the event was done, and they basically just waived us away. Did not care. There’s plenty of other Filipino food restaurants out there, not worth wasting your time on this one.

I'm not impressed with this small Filipino restaurant. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars. It could be a 5 if the staff focused more on customer service rather than chatting among themselves. The place is small, and their talking holds up the line. “Typical Filipinos” Some even chat with customers for too long, making the wait worse. Honestly, I'd much rather hit up a Vietnamese, Thai, or Mexican place where the service doesn't drive you crazy!

I ate lunch today at this very small Filipino fast-food restaurant and was very satisfied with my food order. The Pancit and sinigang Pampano were delicious and taste like home cooked food!
The downside to this restaurant is that it is too small with only 2 tables where patrons can sit to eat.

Always busy/ long queue during lunch. If you’re missing the taste of home or no time to cook Filipino dishes, they’re the go-to
