The food and drinks were great, nice, but very busy service, so by the time we got back to the car, we ended up having to pay the additional time for the validated parking. Just be sure they confirm you showed up for your OpenTable reservation so you don't have to prove you were actually there the next day!! Overall, we like Sol when wanting good Mexican cuisine.

We wanted to try out this new Sol. The food was contemporary Mexican , creative and good but didn't knock my socks off overall. 1. Cadillac margarita: 4/5 - very smooth and right sweetness, nice flavor. Personally I could use abit more lime juice. Still very good. 2. Blackberry ginger margarita: 3.5/5 - good, refreshing with gingery flavor and taste. 3. Pineapple Serrano margarita: 4/5 - another refreshing margarita, not too spicy, Pineapple was subtle. I would order it again. 4. Guacamole Sol 4/5 - pretty good and creative with toppings. Fun. 5. Mexx chopped salad: 3/5 - good but could use abit more acidity or cilantro dressing vs "avocado Caesar" dressing cuz it got lost for me. Not much flavored. We waited quite abit for salad ... it ended coming out the same time with our entrees... 6. Goat cheese enchiladas: 3/5 - was ok for me. Sauce was not robust and the end of enchilada was hard like carton board. Glad my hubby added carne asada to give flavors. 7. Chile relleno: 3/5 - was good but not so special. I was glad to add grilled shrimp agave to give some protein and flavors. Our server was great except the kitchen was behind for our salad so we chowed down salad and entrees the same time.... We haven't been back to the Sol in Newport for a long time but my memory thinks the food there is more memorable than this one... There is a 3.99% surcharge for worker health.

Sol Cocina was one of our go-to restaurants for date night and celebrations for more than a decade. Unfortunately, we have seen a steady decline in customer service and food quality over the course of the last couple years at this location and the Newport Beach location. We kept going trying to give it yet another chance, but every time we are disappointed again.

Disappointing, very loud and although the staff was nice we keep having.m to ask for water and chips. Food was decent but bright lighting a land noise level really detracted from experience.

We've been coming here for many years and have always had a great experience. Unfortunately, our visit on Christmas was very disappointing. The food overall was not good. My Wagyu steak, ordered medium rare, was not Wagyu at all. It was very chewy, tough, and honestly hard to eat. The El Jefe taco, which we've had dozens of times before, was also extremely dry and tough this time. It felt like the food was being rushed out, possibly because it was busy that night. The service itself was good, and we made sure to tip our server well, but the quality of the food really missed the mark compared to our past experiences.

We had a reservation elsewhere on Christmas Day for dinner. The restaurant was 90 minutes behind so with two toddlers we had to pivot. Sol got 6 of us in last minute. The dinner was very good and enjoyable. Thank you for saving the day!
This was our second dining experience at SOL Mexican Cocina in Irvine. The food and drinks were excellent. I want to recognize our server, Vladimir: he was attentive and friendly and we hope to see him again when we return. The noise level: "energetic," not necessarily a positive. The restaurant was crowded and rather loud. Although legal, I find the 3.99% surcharge questionable, considering that a 20% tip is expected.

SOL Mexican Cocina is a fantastic spot for bold, fresh flavors and a welcoming vibe. The food is incredibly tasty—everything is well-seasoned, fresh, and clearly made with care. On top of that, the service is great: friendly, attentive without feeling rushed. Overall, it's a solid choice for a delicious meal and a really enjoyable dining experience.
