Truly, oddly, weird experience.
Walk in with a party of 4.
2 go to the bathroom to freshen up and once the table is ready, the waitress tells us to “wait near the door until they are out.” Huh? We inform her: “no, they are in your restroom, we all already walked in together…”
“NO! Wait until they are out of the bathroom and then you can sit down.”
Cool…
Once we are seated (ya know, when everyone is out) they take our order - and 45 minutes pass before I tepidly ask, “hi, I ordered the salmon roll almost an hour ago?”
“Things take time!” Is their answer.
Cool…
Then, the salmon skin hand roll arrives with completely soggy salmon.
“It’s the way salmon is! The chef cut it wrong but it’s still salmon skin!”
Cool…
“Hey; just please cancel the salmon roll,” I say 1.05 hours later.
“No! It’s almost ready!”
“Nah, please cancel it. It’s been over an hour.”
Silence. Bad stare. Coldness. Check.
Fin.
Fun times. Maybe an off day.

The taste is very good and authentic, and the price is reasonable. Like raw fish rice

I’m not going to lie this does not at all feel like authentic Japanese. I highly doubt ownership is Japanese. The quality & freshness was NOT there. Way overpriced for what it is. The atmosphere was stale & quiet. Worst was the service. Rude, quiet, & standoffish. Notable mention, We went about 4 months ago but were talking about it together today.

Agreed with Kevin below. What was once our favorite sushi spot is no more, likely due to ownership change. Luckily the Uni pasta is still great, but for $28 you may think twice (I think it was $22 before). We used to come once a month at least, for more than two years, and the food was SO consistent. Every single time high quality, impeccable presentation. No more. And to add insult to injury, our typical meal was $20 more. The $20 more would have been fine if the quality was still there.

The yellowtail roll, which used to be great with yellowtail chunks from high quality sushi, is now mush. Doesn't taste the same.

The seared salmon sushi was the same price or more expensive, with half the rice and 1/2 the fish. The Yellowtail sushi was of lower quality and didn't taste great, and a bit smaller than in the past. Very bummed our favorite sushi spot is now just ok.

Sad to see a once great place go downhill. Used to come here 1-2 times a week. Back then, people would line up before opening, that's how popular it was, and for a good reason: food was delicious then. Went back today and it's not the Jinbei I used to know. The spicy tuna cut roll, which I always used to get, was so mushy and fishy-smelling. No sense of freshness. Everything about it was disappointing. Same goes for the spicy tuna crunchy roll. Flavors are way off. Service is good though.

One goes there for the food not the atmosphere. Good and healthy choices.

I remember that I previously liked their food and pricing, but this time, I wasn’t impressed with either. Their price went up significantly and food quality and volume have gone down??? Servers were very kind and checking in to make sure we have everything needed, so I don’t have any negative comments on the service side at all.

Kid-friendliness: Fine for kids.

Wheelchair accessibility: Flat floor and I believe wheel chair can also fit in at enough number of tables there.

Watch out for (intentionally?) misleading servers. We ordered the Santa Barbara uni (2 pieces for $18) but they came back and said they only have Boston uni which the server said was $20. The server did NOT mention it was a per piece price and any normal person would have assumed it was 2/$20 give the circumstances. She definitely made it sound like it was $2 more.

Not only that they came out with 4 pieces. We thought about returning it but just decided to eat it. Basically at this point unknown to us we thought the order would be $40 but it was actually $80!

The worst part is there was a fly in one of the pieces. When we pointed it out the server didn’t even apologize and just asked if we wanted a replacement. At this point we were grossed out and said no.

When we asked for our check a different server gave it to us and that’s when we learned for the first time they were going to charge us double what we’re expecting for the uni. When we complained about that and the fly she agreed to honor the originally expected price (2/$20) and acted like it was a discount but to be honest this was a given because we were misled by the first server (who still had not apologized and never did). She also apologized for the fly but just said “sorry we get a lot of flies in here”. If you have a lot of flies the restaurant should do more to mitigate.

We were so upset about the bait and switch pricing and the fly and beyond correcting the price all we got was a $10 discount which was nice but at the end of the day did not do anything to help us feel better about a ruined evening. The worst part was that the first server who caused all this never apologized.

My dad found this place and told me it was one of the best Japanese cuisines in town. I was skeptical at first, but this place is definitely on my book now.

Must get:
- Sushi - very fresh. Great fish to rice ratio. My favorite sushi place is Nana San, and this place is on par. Their take on the red snapper is different but also very good.

- Uni Pasta - you can actually taste the uni. Thank god it's not too much cream.

- Japanese cuisine - very authentic, although some may argue it's towards the smaller portion.

This place gets packed fast, so go early if you can.

Great for casual family dinner, gathering, or a casual date night.

Excellent quality Japanese cuisine, very authentic, reasonably priced, no reservations, can get busy with long waits.
