First time trying Mokkoji and it was awesome. It was a little expensive, but the quality is great. My friends and I never really have Shabu Shabu, but I have a feeling we will be coming back here more and more.

There are 3 locations in Orange County but my favorite location is Irvine. The second location would be in Costa Mesa because they do serve outdoor I can bring my fur baby. I love hot pot in general but I must say Mokkoji hot pot still my number 1 hot pot place out of all. I love their Fire Crab Soup Base which no other hot pot has this flavor. I normally ordered the Surf & Turf which they offer a large beef plate but you would pick your beef choice of cuts and the price is different as well depend on what cut you choose. Beside the beef plate it came with seafood plate contain half lobster, scallops, salmon, white gulf shrimps and shrimps paste. As for appetizer you can pick between garlic shrimps or something else. But because I always get garlic shrimp so I wouldn’t remember what are there other choices. Come with drinks and desserts as well. But this time I just ordered the combination of beef and shrimp since that’s what I felt like at that moment. Also they offer unlimited greens, but not Enoki Mushrooms or Tofu, ect….

Our favorite place! We go to the Irvine one every week. The food is simple and clean. I feel good (and satiated) after eating there, not greasy or heavy like some places.
You have a choice of meats or vegetarian, and they give you various vegetables to add to your pot. Many choices of broths to start with. Each person has their own pot to cook in which I like. Their rice is also very good. It's a mix of a few types.
My favorite broth is the miso base with the marinated flat iron steak. After you are finished cooking, the broth turns into a tasty soup!
The staff are all great, friendly. They bring out your food quickly and check back to see how you're doing.
I highly recommend this restaurant!

There are many shabu-shabu restaurants, but this place has the advantage of letting you eat just the amount you want, rather than being an all-you-can-eat spot. The service is decent, and while there’s nothing particularly special, it’s a comfortable and reliable place to enjoy a meal in the neighborhood. I recommend it for a casual, local dining experience.

Great spot for shabu. Options for marinated or plain meat, unlimited veggies, good broth. Not my favorite shabu spot, but I've been back several times over since the location is more convenient. Use the wait-list feature to get a table.

pretty delicious food! their spicy concoction that they put into your sauces is surprisingly spicy so watch out.

only have 1 man’s and 1 woman’s bathrooms though so it might be hard to get hold of during rush hours.

oh right the chopsticks could be a bit better as some small pieces came off during dinner.

Mokkoji is more than just a shabu spot—it’s dinner and a live drama show. The food is solid, with nice broths and super thin shabu meat (seriously, it’s like dipping tissue paper). But hey, unlimited veggie refills make up for it! The real star of the night? The tea-worthy gossip. The young Asian couple next to us casually revealed they were both cheating on their original partners—spicy, right? Who needs Netflix when you have Mokkoji? Come for the hot pot, stay for the unexpected reality show.

We've been coming here since 2016, and I can't believe I've never written a review until now! Mokkoji is a great shabu-shabu spot where you order a set that includes a meat option, along with rice, vegetables, and dipping sauces. What makes them stand out is that their veggies (kale, bokchoy, napa cabbage) are essentially AYCE, even though it’s not explicitly stated on the menu. They also offer "hot-drops" for those who want that extra spice in their soups!

The quality of the meat is higher than what you'd find at an AYCE spot. My husband and I typically order our own entrees, but I recently discovered their "share" option, where a plate of meat comes with two bowls of rice and two plates of veggies—making it a better value per slice of meat. Life hack!

The service is excellent, and the food is delicious. However, with the growing number of hot pot spots in town, it’s becoming harder to justify coming here, as the price isn’t much lower than AYCE options, especially with the added cost for broths. Still, it’s a solid choice if you're looking for quality over quantity!

I have been going here once a month to treat myself for over a year. I always order original broth vegetarian with extra tofu. This time I order hot tea. The cup smelled and tea tasted weird. The vegetables seem okay but tofu seems off. I am a person who been eating tofu most of my life and I can tell the difference of tofu taste and textures of tofu suppose to be like. There was something on my last order of tofu and the waitress did not bother offer replace it or ask how my food was. I can say I am not going here again. The quality of food and customer service has declined.

Great Shabu Shabu place as a healthier dinner option when dining out. Meat quality is decent, vegetable offerings are fresh and bountiful. The rice texture could be better, it’s a bit dry and mushy, and the broth and sauce lack slightly in depth comparing to Shabu Shabu you can get in Japan.

Overall good value, for ~$30 you get meat, tofu, veggies, udon, rice, broth and complimentary tea.
