My sister was in town with her family and I needed to find fine Japanese dining for an early dinner after church service on a Saturday. My family and I had been to O Fine for OC Restaurant Week. O Fine had a dinner reservation through Open Table for Saturday at 6 PM for our group of 7. I made the reservation at around 11 PM on Friday the day before. We arrived early at the restaurant and were shown to our table in the more private section. There was one other family in the room. John introduced himself as our server for the evening. He got us water and green tea before returning for our orders. I had returned to have the Wild Caught Chilean Seabass 3 Ways. My daughter chose the Yuzu Miso Black Cod and Vegetable Tempura. Niece #1 ordered the Chicken & Shrimp Tempura Udon. Niece #2 had the Salmon Teriyaki, cut CA Roll, Caterpillar Roll, and the Baked Lobster Roll which was mentioned often in the newest Yelp reviews. Brother-in-law would be starting with a mixed green salad and moving to Wild Caught Miso Chilean Seabass. My husband repeated the Sashimi Salad he had during OC Restaurant Week and added a Yuzu Miso Black Cod. The salads are large enough for 2 people or a family of 4 to share appetizer portions. Brother-in-law was impressed with the salad dressing. Presentation of the caterpillar roll and baked lobster special roll was excellent. The lobster tail shell is used as decoration in a bowl of tasty sauteed onions, mushrooms, and asparagus with a rich sauce. Each of the 3 ways the Chilean Seabass was prepared had its own flavor profile. You could taste more pepper in the pan-fried style which was accompanied with slices of cucumber and a lemon wedge. The tempura style had a vinegar-based sauce and was made all the more colorful with finely diced yellow, red, and green bell peppers. My favorite way was baked with miso. The Yuzu Miso Black Cod melted in your mouth. Service was excellent. Visiting family members felt honored to be taken to dine here.
Been a regular here since it opened in 2011. The sushi is always so fresh and oh so good. Service is spot on. Very friendly staff. It's expensive but it is so worth it. Go and give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!
Another unforgettable dinner at O Fine Japanese Cuisine, thanks to the impeccable service from Iga and John! Every bite was a delight, starting with the Premium Chirashi—a masterpiece of fresh, expertly prepared fish. The tuna was luxuriously savory, the salmon melted with mellow sweetness, and the monkfish liver delivered a decadently rich finish.
For rolls, the Crispy Lobster CA Roll (with soy paper, lobster tempura, crunch flake, masago, and eel sauce) was a textural dream, but if I had to choose just one, the Baked Lobster CA Roll stole the show. Packed with lobster, sautéed onions, mushrooms, asparagus, masago, dynamite sauce, and eel sauce, it was an umami explosion—rich yet surprisingly light.
We couldn’t resist trying their signature “O” Roll, a stunning combination of bluefin tuna, yellowtail, salmon, blue crab, avocado, and asparagus, wrapped in cucumber and topped with caviar and yuzu ponzu. Every element harmonized perfectly!
And as an extra special treat we got ourselves the yuzu bloom sake. A sake drink with a subtle floral and strong citrus flavour profile.
The ambiance strikes the ideal balance—upscale yet relaxed, making it perfect for both special occasions and laid-back nights out. O Fine never disappoints—I’ll be back soon!

There are 2 locations in Orange County. I normally come to the one in Irvine often than Laguna Beach. Most of their dishes were very good. Sashimi and lobster sashimi super fresh. Their rolls, udon soup flavorful. And I love Japanese food so I’d like to explore different Japanese restaurants

High quality omakase in Irvine! We tried their 15-year anniversary omakase set and it included pieces such as toro, uni, A5 wagyu, caviar, and more. Some of my personal favorites were the toro uni ikura tart, toro with uni, and the king salmon belly. Everything was very fresh and beautifully presented. Our host was super friendly and took the time to explain each piece, which really made the experience feel special.
The ambiance is clean and modern. You can choose between premium omakase or à la carte, making this spot great for both date nights and casual dinners.

a hidden gem in irvine! i was truly impressed by the ambiance and quality of fish here. in an elegant dining space, @ofineirvine serves premium omakase or a la carte dishes with some fish imported from Japan! my favorite was the Chirashi bowl which had thick cuts of high quality fish and the red snapper sashimi with the most delicious yuzu sauce. i’d say the prices are definitely more high-end, but it truly matched the quality of food. great for a celebration or date night!

The service was pretty bad. We all ordered pretty simple items, there were just three of us. They brought the wrong item to me. They took it away and then took a ridiculously long time to bring another one. They never said anything about it they just took it away and then the wait. We asked if we could have the dish that they took away and they said no it is against our policy and then we watched it just sit on the sushi bar until we left. We also asked for things like soy sauce, which took a super long time. Wouldn't recommend.
I had an incredible dining experience at O Fine Japanese Cuisine in Irvine. Every dish was beautifully crafted and packed with flavor — from the sushi to the small plates, everything felt thoughtful and elevated. The ambiance was calm and elegant, making it a perfect spot for a special night out or a peaceful dinner.
The attention to detail and the quality of the ingredients truly stood out. You can tell this place takes pride in what they do. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing.
