This place has a nice ambience . Spacious and they have games to play at the large tables . However the service has been very slow every time we have come. I feel like they should warn you about this when you come in. We waited over an hour the first time (granted, they were more busy that day) but today we also waited 45 minutes and they were almost empty when we came in. The food is hit or miss, some items are very good but others we weren't able to finish. I'd come back for a drink and treat if I had a couple hours to spare.

Our new favorite place in Julian. Fresh food and big portions. We had crepes and they were great and the vegan cookie was the bomb. Nice quiet area with seating out front.

Food was good. Was not happy with the wait. Place was less than 50% occupied but it took more than 30 mins for our salad and tartine to come out. A bit cold inside. We were eating with our winter coats on.My wife liked the focaccia.

Great coffee and very relaxed ambiance. Lots of tables, good light and windows The music they play is mellow jazz so it's easy to concentrate , talk quietly, or work . They also have a menu of smoothies and light fair ( salads, crepes, etc...). Nice find .

Just stopped in for a latte but my husband couldn't resist the sound of the mushroom crepe and man, was it good. We split it, it was huge and packed with flavorful mushrooms, onion (but not too many because I'm not a cooked onion lover) and yummy cheese. The crepe itself was fantastic too. It was a struggle not to try other things. I don't think you can go wrong here. Great service too!

This place is excellent! Had the fresh orange juice and a crepe. Both were great. Service was fast and staff were friendly. It’s located off the main strip so less crowded and just generally a more pleasant atmosphere. I would recommend Purple Owl over any of the restaurants on the main strip.

Nice little breakfast place in Julian! Great decor and it was pretty empty on a Sunday morning. The French toast was amazing and the kids enjoyed the maple syrup crepes. Everything seemed fresh and made to order. Looking forward to another visit soon!

what I ordered | biscuits + gravy with impossible sausage | mango smoothie | banana bread french toast taste | the gravy had a nice kick and flavor for the biscuits. the impossible sausage makes it more filling but good portion. mango smoothie was standard. banana french toast was good. it tasted like banana bread in the french toast batter. service | came here on a Saturday morning and they were definitely understaffed. saw around 2 cooks and there was a lot of people ordering food here. unfortunately we waited an hour for our food to come out which is kinda disappointing. parking | small lot notes | mostly vegan dishes here and dog friendly outdoor seating overall the food was great, but the service really hindered the overall experience.

Great coffee roasted by an excellent craft roaster in SD, delicious French-inspired lunches with vegan options, and a spacious, clean comfortable place to hang out, with quiet jazz, games, and warm people. Purple Owl is a just off the main drag but is a hidden gem in Julian.

Cute little cafe, tried the mazapán latte 50% sweet and loved it! The indoor decor was really pretty with lots of plants and they had board games

I come to Julian yearly and have to say this is the best Breakfast joint I've found so far. The food as anyone can see from the photos is beautiful and it tastes amazing. I'm adding some recommendations below just because as much as I love this place some small touches would make the place even better. This place is still definitely 5 stars. 1. It was cold inside. Don't run the fans when it's in the 40s outside it's cold enough and turn the heater higher. All customers wore jackets inside for a reason. 2. Hang some photos on the wall to make it look less sterile. 3. If making 6 hot drinks for a large group, serve as they are made because by the time the last drink is made the first few will be cold. Especially when drinking inside in a non insulated mug. 4. The savory crepes could use one or two meat options. I suggest ham and/or egg. 5. A 30 minute wait for 6 people ordering crepes is understandable especially with food as good and beautiful as it is here but adding another chef to help quicken the pace would still make sense. I will add that although their were customers there wasn't a huge crowd when I came in. 6. All the crepes were amazing but I admit the (I believe it was the Puebla crepe) seemed to lack substance. It was mostly liquid & onion especially compared to the beautiful and full volume sweet crepe next to it (see photo).

Super cute cafe!! I loved the ambiance, all the flowers decorating each table, and the overall vibe. I ordered: 1x Vietnamese coffee 1x purple owl drink The drinks themselves were good but they took FOREVER to come out. Like two full games of Uno! I blame the busy holiday weekend, but for not ordering any food, the wait was way too long.

COZY, is the first word that comes to mind the moment you walk in. The cafe is clean, neat and warm. The staff is kind and welcoming. We were greeted by the barista and she was able to tell me about each pastry. The Mexican Mocha was perfect. I can't forget to mention that it's KID FRIENDLY! They have toys to keep the kids entertained while parents write their yelp review *wink*
