The first time visiting this place, we were blown away. Service was great and the food was delicious. We’ve been back a few times since and it’s been inconsistent at best. On our most recent trip, the biggest change went from being seated and served, to ordering at the counter and finding your own seat. This in itself isn’t an issue, but they charge gratuity on every order, without really doing anything. The next issue was the food. They were serving a limited menu so we ordered two burgers, a blackened chicken sandwich and the PUBLIC chili. We’ve had the chili before and it was delicious. However, the chili was bland and lukewarm. The burgers were a huge disappointment as well. We ordered them medium rare and received them way over well done. How do you have a dry burger that’s greasy at the same time? Not really sure how that happened. Other than the change in seating/everyone staying at the counter, the staff was nice and friendly. The views of lake cuyamaca are pretty great, I only wish they kept the food quality they had.Vegetarian options: Really only one vegetarian open in the chili.Parking: Parking in front of the restaurant is free and there is a lot behind the restaurant that is sometimes free and sometimes paid parking.

My family and I visited Julian for the day from Orange County and we stopped by The Pub on our way back home. I had the Jalapeño burger and my husband tried the Mushroom Swiss burger, and both were amazing and paired well with the onion rings! The restaurant had a tranquil vibe and the lake views just added to the ambience. We bought an apple pie from the attached store next to the restaurant to enjoy at home and I wish we had bought two. Perfect spot to stop and recharge before hitting the road! Highly recommend!
