Akafuji is a hidden gem located in a strip mall. While you might not expect much, the interior is modern and simplistic with a clean feel. Almost every seat is at the sushi bar, so you get the full experience when ordering omakase. They do also have some outdoor seatings, so noted if I ever want to bring my pup along with me --huge plus.We ordered the Omakase Special ($50), which came with 8 premium nigiri pieces and a blue crab handroll. To start off, we had a miso soup, salad, and chawanmushi. Then the nigiri came starting with the halibut. The following came in a set of two before finishing off with the seared miso black cod and handroll. Each nigiri was beautifully decorated with the right amount of sauce and toppings that you really didn't even need the soy sauce to go with it. Such an underrated spot --come get their omakase, you won't regret it!

First impression: clean, modern and inviting. Staff was professional in welcome at initial sitting. Ordered a few rolls that seem to be proprietary to them. The Blue Ocean roll and the fusion Toro roll. The Blue Ocean was outstanding! Bluefin in the outside and fresh blue crab on the inside. Bluefin was fatty and so delicious with the blue crab grounding the flavor in the ocean. Rice ratio was perfect. The Fusion Toro roll was a surprise. The tuna was mixed in a yuzu mustard sauce that really was light on the tongue but was distinct in the tongue. The standard Yellow tail jalapeño roll was good, highlight here was the generous amount of hamachi and rice. The Tempura was well presented and the batter and cook was perfect. The salmon collar was maybe the best I ever had, fatty (always a variable) and meaty. Good portion for me. Overall very good experience. Will have to come back for dinner to see the difference in service and quality. Lunch was a nice slow pace. I'm sure dinner is a little busier. Price is average For first impression and excellent cut of bluefin, 5 stars for you

Downhill quality, from best to worst!I used to love their seared ankimo, and have been telling my friends that it's probably the best I've had. But I just ordered it today, and it was not the same! The portion shrunk 50%. They were not pieces of liver but ground liver that tasted like sand and looked like canned cat food! So gross! Such a pity! This is how a badly managed restaurant lose their customers!

I ordered takeout as follows from Akafuji: two katsu curry bowls ($9/each), fried calamari ($7), and California rolls ($7). I love eating here because you can get a rice bowl and appetizer with a subtotal under $20. Their food is delicious and filling. The curry tastes lovely and balances well with the pickled red ginger. The rolls came out well-sized, and the calamari tasted solid. Note that the portions can come out a little small if you share, but for one person, I'd say they can fill you up for takeout. I got my food in 20 minutes and sat in a chair to wait for my food since I arrived a little early. When I've eaten here in the past, the waiters seated me quickly, and they have cozy patio seating. I wholly recommend coming here for the quality food and great food prices.

I ordered delivery of the three cut roll. I selected blue crab for extra charge, salmon, and yellowtail. The fish tasted fresh and the value was good. I was very happy they didn't skimp on the condiments. My favorite was the blue crab roll. I could eat it without soy sauce

Great service, fresh sushi and nice presentation. Loved that they offer real crab and it was a generous amount too. I ordered chirashi bowl and 2 special crab rolls.

I'm a repeat customer. Instead of driving to LA or exploring new sushi/hand roll bars, I just come here for their weekend lunch special (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). I always get the three roll combo and add $2 for the blue crab, costing me a total of $20. I also always bring home leftovers. Service is excellent. Somehow the restaurant is never packed, simply 60% full every time. They have indoor seating at a low bar and outdoor tables with a casual ambiance.

The worst sushi ever. Chinese sushi chef. The service is ok. Food is very disgusted. Ankimo socked with soy sauce. It is very salty.

Wow! This place was awesome! The quality of the sushi was perfect! We had 2 rolls, 2 hand rolls, and Toro and yellow tail sashimi, it was all so good! The hand rolls were amazing, we had spicy tuna and yellowtail. Definitely recommend... so happy we found our new sushi spot.

So happy to have found this little gem so close to home. This is the first place to ever get the rice to fish ratio correct in a chirashi bowl for me. Make sure you book in advance for holidays like Valentine's Day -- it can get crowded fast. Otherwise this place is a really cute low key spot for an elevated weeknight dinner.

Wow. I'm looking forward to coming back.I ordered:- Blue Crab Hand Roll: It was soooo good.... that I had to place another order. It's a must when eating here. - Uni: Delicious & delectable - Salmon: Melts in your mouth & fresh- Albacore: No complaints! Fresh & creamy My boyfriend ordered the chicken kaarage & udon. I didn't try the udon but it smelt amazing & the kaarage was the perfect balance of crispy & juicy. All in all, I enjoyed my meal & need to get my hands on those Blue Crab rolls again ASAP. We arrived about 20 minutes after opening with a reservation & the restaurant fills up fast so I definitely recommend making one. It could be hard catching the attention of the waiters but they're definitely juggling 100 things at once (it was Saturday afterall). Once you're able to flag them down they make sure to get you what you need quickly. Can't wait to go back!

Every time we come here it is amazing. The food and the service is always low key but attentive. They have excellent sushi rolls and sashimi is ?. The Toro tartare is my fav while my wife loves the halibut carpacio (to start.) The owner and staff are wonderful. This time I ordered the fresh sweet shrimp and the waitress gave me the great tip to eat the head in addition to the tail. Blew my mind, so good!!!We will continue to come here as long as possible! This is our new go-to sushi place.

Pretty good spot for reasonably priced omakase! I think the omakase special was $50 that’s 8 nigiris and a hand roll which in todays world isn’t really that bad. And for the quality, I’d even dare say this is on the cheaper end of sushi but good.I did some research before going to La Habra since I couldn’t find much to eat but Akafujis sushi looked fresh and quality. Nigiris were all fresh and nicely seasoned with garnish/sauce, blue crab hand roll was also packed with blue crab, friends salmon truffle roll was a+ and the fried calamari was also a banger.Overall, I’d def return and recommend it to my friends. Some of the reviews seem like they’re derived from unreasonable expectations and even then, I thought this was a solid spot for the price. It would be nice if they had an appetizer included in the omakase special but oh well. The server wasn’t the friendliest but I honestly don’t really care as long as he is able to service our table promptly and professionally which he did. Also it was kinda nice to sit outside to eat too and todays weather was perfect.
