Awesome ube pancakes, great drinks and a chill atmosphere. The seating is limited but it’s a good vibe

the breakfast bowl was the least flavorful meal i’ve ever ordered. dry arugula on grains and hummus with no seasoning. the egg on top was overcooked. i was shocked at how flavorless the food was for being $20. i usually don’t leave reviews but i felt like i had to since this place is so popular

I clearly ordered almond milk due to lactose intolerance, yet my drink was switched and made with regular milk, which is unacceptable and harmful. My friend’s latte tasted like a watered down cinnamon substance with no coffee flavor at all. On top of that, the service was incredibly rude and annoyed. Overall, a careless and unpleasant experience. Don't waste your time and money coming here.

Cute place and the food is good, but the music is SO LOUD all the time! Sucks when you’re trying to talk to your friends. Even outside seating gets BLASTED with the volume. Such a bummer.

If you’re in La Jolla, this is a good one to try out. We stopped in mid walk just to get an açaí bowl and it lived up to the hype. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor in the afternoon on a weekend. Will have to come back for their drinks and to try more food options

We went to the Blue Whale for all three days of our trip to La Jolla! The drinks and food were delicious and flavorful. The entire staff was also extremely friendly and welcoming. We’d recommend this place to anyone in La Jolla and will definitely come again when we visit again :)

PS - our favorite drink was the mango tajín smoothie!

The lattes are pretty solid in the cutest mugs and the french toast is pretty hefty and filling. Super cute little cafe with such a beachy vibe. The decor is super cute and gives such a cafe by the sea look.

Small restaurant in La Jolla that gets pretty busy so expect to wait a bit for your food. We came here on a weekday for brunch and were luckily able to snag a table by the entrance before a big group came in.
Counter order and find your own table.

The blue whale brekky, steak & eggs, and French toast were all delicious. I really like the sauteed greens that came with the brekky. The French toast was beautiful and was basically desserts for breakfast. Yum!Portions were big.

So disappointed. Used to recommend this place to all my friends specially for their matcha. I went yesterday for the first time and a few months and paid nearly $9 for a matcha that was inedible. The matcha was clumpy and chunky and not dissolved at all. I was just drinking straight clumps of matcha it was disgusting. It’s not that difficult to properly mix/dissolve matcha before serving especially when paying such a premium. I expect consistent quality so I will not be supporting or recommending this place anymore.

I really enjoyed the coffee shop. I went there to work but it is busy for working and the music is loud. It is better for hanging out.
I had a rose tea and really enjoyed it.
The parking situation is a bit difficult and hard to find, buy over all it was a great experience.

Disappointed first visit..

First time visiting San Diego and decided to try Blue Whale, unfortunately, it was a big letdown. There was no greeting from the cashier when we walked in, and the lowest tip option at checkout was 18%, even though we had to grab our own silverware, water, and find our own table.

I ordered the steak and eggs, which the menu said came with sunny-side-up eggs exactly what I wanted. But it came out scrambled. When I asked the server to correct it, he made a face before taking it back to the kitchen. Not a great attitude for such a simple mistake.

My friend ordered the ube pancake because it sounded unique, but the blueberries on top were clearly unwashed and had visible dirt on them. That’s just unacceptable.

From both the food quality and the service, it’s clear they don’t pay attention to details or care much about the customer experience. There are plenty of better spots around San Diego. I wouldn’t recommend this one.
