“I ordered 2 tripa tacos and 2 gorditas de chicharrón. The tripas were actually good but very underseasoned. The gorditas were fried and to my surprise they had nopales which was a plus, however I could tell they were from a can and were dry. The staff was ehhh 5/10. The food was alright 7.5/10. They need to season up more and a smile goes a long way. I would come back tho.“

“We loved Don Chepe! It is Authentic Mexican food. I LOVED the quesabirrias!!!!!!! Such wonderful flavor. The salsa verde, red sauce and broth all go so well together. The meat is delicious as well as everything each plate comes with. The service was very good and the people were so friendly! The sitting area is beautiful with a river to sit in front of, in the shade. A beautiful breeze flows through to cool you down as you gaze at the relaxing river. I’ve been to Flautas El Bandido a few times now, and they hit the mark every single time. Consistency is key, and it certainly helps that they are the only food truck holding things down on the stretch between Exeter and home. Honestly, it’s one of the very few places in the area that I consider to be truly authentic Mexican food.
On my latest visit, I tried their Grilled Cheese Torta with Asada, and it might have just changed the game for me.

The Breakdown

The Travel Test: I had a 30-minute drive from pickup to home, and I was thrilled to find it was still perfectly warm when I unwrapped it—no sad, cold sandwich here.

The Bread: This is where many tortas fail, but Flautas El Bandido nails it. The bread is firm yet soft, and wonderfully filling. It’s not that overly airy bread that causes the whole thing to structurally collapse before it even reaches your mouth. It holds its own.

The Fillings: It came loaded with a generous amount of melted cheese, perfectly seasoned asada, fresh pico de gallo, cabbage, onion, and creamy avocado.

The Verdict

While many places make their own version of a torta, this specific grilled cheese style was a first for me. I think I’ve officially found a brand-new way to enjoy a torta. To top it all off (literally), it came with a classic pickled jalapeño on the side for that perfect kick.

If you're driving through, do yourself a favor and pull over. This food truck is a local treasure.“

“The food is how you would get it at home. The tortillas on the tacos are a little too raw for me, but my Dad loves them that way. They don't dip them in oil how most places do, so if you're going for a less calorie taco, this is the place. The meat is fresh and they put plenty in your tacos. The tortas are delicious also. They always have a variety of aguas frescas and also bottled or canned drinks. The tables have been widened so they aren't super skinny like before. You can sit and enjoy the food. It's clean and chill there.“
