THE FOOD WAS GOOD ,BUT NOT THE BEST ! SERVICE IS SLOW ! GREAT SPOT FOR PEOPLE WATCHING ! COOL BREEZE OFF THE OCEAN 🌊
Great local spot
Great homestyle food and location! Have loved this place forever
Great location! Great food! Free two-hour street parking right outside the door (if you can find a spot). This is a typical Southern California diner with great breakfast and lunch items. The coffee is good, too! Our party of four loved the omelettes and child burger! Important note: CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM conveniently inside the diner.
I really enjoyed my meal, and I wasn't the only one, it seemed like everyone around thought the same of their meals.
Nothing groundbreaking, but get good diner food right by the beach. Great place to being your dogs and enjoy a meal on the sidewalk tables. Servers are quick to get your order and deliver your food.
They only take cash, so plan ahead to avoid using the ATM inside and avoid the surcharge.
Right by the beach, fresh air and great food. What else could you ask for.

This old school cafe is a classic. Staff is super friendly. Food is reasonably priced and delicious. Portions are healthy. My wife and I were in Long Beach for three days....we ate there twice, we liked it so much. Pork Chili Colorado. Can't wait to go back!

This morning, I had breakfast with my wife here. We had a great experience with our first server, who had gone on her break halfway through our visit. However, a server with red hair named Gladys completely ruined what would have been an enjoyable breakfast. She didn’t say a single word to us as she slammed a water cup and threw our to-go container on our table, even though we politely replied thank you each time. Yet, it was met with a cold shoulder and no response. She was hospitable and cordial to all the other guests, laughing and smiling. My wife had never experienced such rude service before and couldn’t help but feel it was discrimination based on her race. When I asked the server about her rude behavior, she simply said she was trying to be efficient and serve all the customers because her coworker was on break. What makes us less important than any other customers?
The experience has been traumatic for my wife, and I can assure you that we will never come back to this establishment. Unfortunately, one person can spoil what could have been a place my family and friends would regularly visit. I’m unwilling to take any chances and will find a better business to support. I would never want anyone that I care about to have such an awful experience.
Lastly, my wife pointed out that our table was the only table not warned about street sweeping, which I had not realized at the time. Literally, every other table warned that they should move their car to avoid getting a ticket… except ours. Why was that? To say that the service is unacceptable is a gross understatement, and I’m heartbroken that my wife had to endure this. People like Gladys should not be working in the service industry, and she should be greatly ashamed of herself.

Food was bland, I'm sure that is because most of the clientele are elderly. I can always add my own salt or hotsauce. Not a big deal. No follow up service, the waitress came to our table twice, once to take our order and once to bring the check with the food. The food over course is overpriced as well. The only redemption for the place is the esthetic.

Not your average old school coffee shop!
I hit up Chuck's Coffee Shop in Belmont Shore, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. It's a little triangle of a place. Looking for a spot of breakfast, I was taken by their fried chipped potatoes, a unique take, and one I don't see very often.
I ordered my go-to dish: country fried steak and eggs. Boy, was I surprised at how delicious the steak was and even more so, the sausage gravy. It was the perfect consistency, thin enough to coat nicely yet not gloopy. It was full of tiny sausage specs, chunks of bacon, and even minced green onions...SO flavorful! The steak itself was a thin cut cube steak, battered and fried in house. It didn't feel heavy at all.
I used the potatoes as a chip to scoop up my eggs onto, and then devour.
The staff were very friendly, with one server who's son was having having breakfast at the counter before packing up his bag and heading out to meet a school field trip. Its a pure local joint, with many of the patrons chatting with each like they are there on a daily basis, which they probably are. I immediately felt comfortable.
I lived in Long Beach for a few years back in the 90s and used to rollerblade past Chuck's often but never stopped in. I have been missing out!
