I'm very sad they're closing at the end of May. I've always had a fun time here. The portions are generous, prices fair and service always friendly! This truly was a Long Beach landmark since 1965!
If you like old things, then this palace is the place. Nothing has been done to it since its was originally opened, I would bet. But I had a great steak for $18 during their happy hours 6 to 8 everyday.Star was our server and she lived up to her name.
The restaurant will be closing as of May 20, 2023.It's not a fancy restaurant, it's approachable, non pretentious, with enough attitude to make it interesting. If you're looking for 5 star dining experience where wait staff caters to whatever you wishes, this is not your place. If you want an interesting place with decent food, come here, hopefully before they close. Come early, some of the more popular items like prime ribs and fried chickens may run out fast.
Will not go back. Worst service bad steaks. My steak was $24. And paper thin. We got there at 5 and didn't get our meal until after 7. The only good thing was the bus boy David. The worst $275. we ever spent.
A real hidden gem. Food quality, prices, and taste are awesome. Service is top-notch, efficient, and friendly. I must have passed place dozens of times over the years, and never suspected it would be this phenomenal! Planning on visiting regularly.
Thank you for being such a nice establishment over the years. My family spent treasured family dinners at the Prospector in the last 40+ years. We always enjoyed our meals and the kind waiters and staff.
The food was pretty good but the French onion soup was super salty. The prices are so good you can't really complain!
Food was ok, my family was not impressed and could not eat the side dishes, The service got my order wrong, by the time the main dish arrived I settled for it to avoid angering the server. The atmosphere is dated, but it was a an experience.
The Prospector is a local stop for all. They have delicious food served in the restaurant and in the bar area. They have a full service bar. Scotty and James (bartenders) are worth visiting. David (busboy) is very helpful. Paula is an angel (waitress). Luis (owner) is a character. Overall, down home place.
There is so much I can say about this place, so many. I have visited twice for dinner with friends. Prices are excellent, the gal that is running around with a smile on her face and meeting the needs of every customer is superb. The boss boy asked us 6 times if we were doing ok. That is amazing customer service. I wish there were more places to eat like these on is Long Beach. What amazed me the most was their hospitality; you get lots of food for little money. There is also a ful bar inside. If you are visiting Long Beach this place is almost historical.

Great dive bar with food! Not Ruth Chris so remember this is the place for a great priced and delicious meal. Drinks are always on point. Bartenders are all awesome.
It took a local friend to take me to this hidden place. If you want prime rib always on the menu, this is it. Bar prices are with in reason as the is the menu. Smile at the other customers, most are regulars. This is the true Long Beach. This is the kind of place I frequented years ago in Newport Beach before the real housewive's fakes moved in and forced mom & pop places out. When I visit again, you will find me here.
Came here 4 years ago 1st time was curious I have been in the restaurant business about 50years in Newport I loved the prospecter restaurant old school soup And salad with dinner tastey food I have had just about everything it’s all good Paula the server is one of the best I’ve seen as a restaurant consolent manager staff trainer l know sorry to hear it is being sold I will go there as often as I can
Not gonna Lie the food is good but the service is horrible when it's any kind of sports on. Pretty much your on your own after you order your food. Then you have to wait 30 to 45min for your food for a family of 4 or 5.
