If I had known then what I know now about De Anza and Foothill Colleges, I would’ve chosen different schools to attend. For the most part, the professors were good. The veterinary program at Foothill is AMAZING. The DRC counselors at both schools were amazing. The rest of the staff, not so much. I have documented all of my many, many negative experiences with both schools, most of which have been with De Anza. My financial aid has been mismanaged from Day One, starting when they listed erroneous information on my FAFSA. They had me listed as part time when I was concurrently attending De Anza FT & Foothill PT. For months they ignored my repeated requests to correct their mistakes. They fabricated my EFC (Expected Family Contribution) index number, which determines the amount of financial aid a student receives, making my financial aid award significantly lower than it should’ve been. They ignored my questions regarding information they provided the Department of Education, and took too long to correct their mistakes (months, if not a year). Both issues led to my receiving less financial aid than what should’ve awarded, as evidenced by a several thousand dollar deposit several MONTHS later to correct their mistakes. I’ve had to fight both schools tooth and nail to enroll in the courses necessary for my degrees, despite having confirmed that all prerequisites have been met. To date, there are still alleged prerequisites I need to meet for the remaining two English courses in order to finish my degree in English. I would love for someone to explain how an English major can be 2 English courses shy of graduating with a degree, and “have not met all the requirements” for the remainder two courses. Their online registration kept insisting that I had requirements that weren’t met, YET when I asked the woman on the phone to literally walk into the registration office and sign me up manually, AMAZINGLY the prerequisite error message was nonexistent & she was able to enroll me. Even the head of the English department confirmed I had met all the requirements and yet, I was still unable to register due to the error messages of not meeting the requirements. The remaining two courses that neither De Anza or Foothill allowed me to enroll in were taken at two other colleges, and shockingly, I had met the prerequisite requirements at the other two schools and have maintained an A average (not bad for someone who allegedly had a prerequisite that wasn’t met). 🙄 De Anza’s bookstore staff isn’t much better. I’ve been proactive in ordering my books in a timely manner, only to have them shipped late (at one point I received my books over two weeks late into an 8 week session). They’ve had the audacity to charge me late fees despite proving that any rentals have been shipped AND delivered to them in a timely manner. The administrative staff has students working in several departments who have no business working in a customer service capacity. One of my instructors at De Anza undermined the Americans with Disabilities Act by sending a very condescending email in response to a service I requested through the DRC program, and another De Anza instructor filed a Maxient report because I mentioned that I was going to drop their class because the materials they used were about as easy to read as a smeared 1970s mimeograph. There are some instructors at Foothill who don’t give the students any inklings about their grades, so if you’re keeping track of your gpa, you’ll have to wait until after the quarter has ended to find out how you’re doing. Most of the administration staff is half-assed at best. When making a request for information, one must babysit these people to ensure they’re doing their jobs properly. After seeing a job ad for admin assistant positions at the Foothill-DeAnza college district, it’s safe to say that these people are incredibly overpaid. Having emailed half a dozen people regarding the fact that they prevented me from finishing my degree at Foothill, I’m still waiting WEEKS later to hear from the

It feels like a four year schools! So many resources for students and amazing staff that are mostly folks who have worked or are actively working in Silicon Valley. The transfer department is awesome and made sure that I was able to get the classes I needed to have a successful transfer and continue on to a UC!
