Ugh I really reallyyy wanted to love Camphor. I really really did. We were so excited all week about this reservation. But it really didn’t hit, unfortunately. Especially not for the price. We arrived and the host was lovely and accommodating — we were welcomed and seated quickly. We came for the steak frites prix fixe menu and sat at the bar excited for a night of good food and ambiance. The bread came out first, and it really wasn’t special. It was partially warm, the butter was decent but not special. Then the salad came out which I will say was excellent. Fresh, crisp, perfectly dressed, and delicious. Then our steak frites came out, I was really underwhelmed. I think my husbands steak was better than mine and more tender, the server had accidentally gave us each others dish so I got to try his first and it was definitely more tender, but mine was really tough. Had I not been so hungry, I probably wouldn’t have eaten it. The fries were also not special. They were not hot, and didn’t seem freshly made. I know it’s hard to freshly fry to order, but they weren’t even hot and they were dry — they tasted like they had been sitting out for a bit. Here’s the thing, if this was a random French brasserie, ok, fine it’s decent. But, it really isn’t worth it for the price (and we did the prix fixe), and my husband and I both left quite shocked that they had a Michelin star. Ambiance was lovely though. Oh and the sauces were delicious. So a cute date night, but not somewhere I’d go for a true culinary experience. Not what I expected of a restaurant of this caliber. Anyway, bummed and thought it was worth writing a review because it is a pretty penny. Also, there were mixed messages on the tip. Our bartender/server (who was lovely btw) told us gratuity is included when he handed us the bill (which was 20%), and then a server or busboy who was helping us process payment since we wanted to pay in cash kinda pressed about leaving a tip. That felt odd, but could have just been a miscommunication. Anyway, I really hate to say, but do not recommend. Especially if you are familiar with French cuisine and know what a true steak frites should taste like, you’ll be disappointed. Hoping it was just an off night because we need a good high-end French restaurant in LA.

From the moment you step inside, the experience is exceptional. The service is attentive, the food is outstanding, and every detail feels thoughtfully executed. A must-visit—I can clearly see why they’ve earned a Michelin Star.

I’ve heard such great things about Camphor, so it was only necessary for me to book a reservation for my birthday. I had high expectations! It started off well and there were dishes that I thoroughly enjoyed and others that were underwhelming. Towards the end of the meal, it started to go downhill. For this price point, I was disappointed with the service. We tried their most popular items which included onion tartine, oysters (prefer the smaller ones), tartare, scallops and chicken for our main. The desserts were impressionable and I would come back for this alone! The dishes were filling and their drinks were good. Ambience was cozy. It was crowded and lively. Good for people watching. There’s valet available, which was convenient.

I went for the steak Fritz night. The bread was delicious. The salad was 10/10 need that one again. The steak was cooked to perfection the fries were okay not the best fries. The bèarnaise sauce was almost there. The ration of sauce, fries, and steak was not it. I had almost no sauce left more than half way through. All in all, dinner was nice. Worth the price ? No way. Not with those fries. If I had enough sauce for my whole steak and some fries this review would be different.

Went for the steak frites night. In short its not worth the 125 dollars/person we spent. The service is terrible, the host was super cold and unfriendly, and I had no water for half an hour, which makes the 20% included tip absurd. The steak is okay, they cooked them all the same no matter what we asked for, and the sauce is very heavy. Fries are great, salad is very overdressed to the point it’s unpleasant, we couldn’t eat it. Bread and butter is okay, butter is not very flavorful.
It’s tooo expensive for an unfriendly and carb heavy okay-steak dinner

The restaurant was super nice, super clean, clean and nice bathroom, it had a comfortable feeling, and very organized. It was probably one of the nicest restaurants I’ve been to. Our waiter was super helpful, super nice, helping us what is best to order, telling us all details about every dish, and always checking on us. The food was super good, the only thing I didn’t enjoy was the seasonal vegetables. When out waiter introduced the dish, she told us it was inspired by the Ratatouille dish. I had high expectations for it and it was still good, but I thought it would taste a little different. Besides that I loved the food, super good, came out fast, and very filling.

We recently dined at Camphor and left with mixed feelings. The service was just okay—we ordered a soft drink and it took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. That said, the cocktails were absolutely delicious and one of the highlights of the night.

Food-wise, there were some standouts and some letdowns. The onion tartine and the bread were both excellent, as was the radicchio salad, which ended up being my favorite dish. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn’t quite live up to the hype. The steaks were cooked properly, but the accompanying sauces didn’t add much. The fish and mushrooms with rice were just okay. The chicken, which the server highly recommended, was underwhelming—not particularly tender, and the sauce didn’t elevate it. The oyster was also forgettable.

Overall, Camphor felt like an okay restaurant with a few strong dishes, but it didn’t live up to the buzz. Worth a visit if you’re in the area and want a great cocktail and a few standout bites, but don’t go in expecting a game-changing meal

The food was mediocre and overpriced. We made a reservation for 7:30, walked in at 7:37, and they made us wait until 8:10 for a table. What’s the point of making a reservation if we’re sat 40 minutes later? When it comes to the food, it’s not French but French-inspired. No wonder they lost the Michelin star. Our server was very nice.

This review is strictly based on the steak frites prix fixe menu. While the steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce on the steak was delicious and full of flavor, the menu as a whole was underwhelming. I’m still giving it 4 stars because the steak was fantastic, but the menu was lacking.

Aside from the steak, the menu was just carb fillers (bread/butter and frites) and a super plain salad.

The dessert was incredible (raspberry mousse cake), but it wasn’t part of the prix fixe menu.

The prix fixe menu would have been better if a substantial app or side was included instead.

I very much want to go back to experience the full menu, because I feel like it would far exceed my expectations.

It’s probably my worst food experience in a Michelin restaurant :( I’m here for my birthday. Only did we knew when we sat down it’s that they only offer prix fixe menu of steak & fries. I never eat fries in my life and both of us barely eat steak. We had no other choices.

So we start with bread which was okay they salad was amazing. And I only had the steak with all the fries untouched. At least the steak was good. By the time we were try to get dessert the waiter told us that there’s no dessert left. ???!! (But it’s in the prix fixe menu isn’t it??)

The wine they recommended to us was on the expensive side of a Sonoma winery(more expensive than our meal)

We visited this restaurant in January 2025, and I have to say, the atmosphere was very nice – definitely upscale. Although I was dressed casually in jeans and a t-shirt, the rest of the restaurant had a slightly more dressed-up vibe. It’s the kind of place that feels a bit sophisticated, but still comfortable.

The staff was attentive and did a great job of explaining the menu, which really added to the experience. For the appetizer, we had the tartar and the onion tartine, and both were really tasty. The tartar, in particular, was absolutely delicious – definitely a highlight of the meal. For the main, I ordered the burger, which was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. It was a simple dish, but done really well.

The mixed drinks were good – I asked for something sweet, refreshing, and strong, but I honestly can’t recall exactly what I ordered. Whatever it was, it hit the mark.

One thing I appreciated about the restaurant is that it seemed to be wheelchair accessible, which is always a plus. However, I wouldn’t recommend bringing children here. It’s a small, quiet space, and while I’m sure they’d be welcomed.

All in all, it was a great experience, and I would definitely go back for a more relaxed, adult evening out.

Managed to snag a last minute seating the day of and was also lucky to preorder the last lobster risotto they had for the day. Word of advice: make sure to pre-order dishes when you're making your reservation if you're going in last minute like us.

We ordered the sea bream, onion tartine, lobster risotto, scallops, and seasonal vegetables.

Sea bream - 3/5
The sea bream was interesting and I would suggest at least trying it once.

Onion tartine- 10/5
The onion tartine was amazing! It literally tasted like French onion soup and the toast was so crunchy while still soaking up all the sauce.

Lobster risotto - 3/5
This was pricey, like $250 market price expensive but we figured it's worth a try. The lobster was tender and cooked to perfection, the risotto was delicious and full of flavor but sadly it was super salty!

Scallops - 5/5
Delicious. It's creamy but not overwhelming. You can feel yourself biting into the scallop with each pasta.

Seasonal vegetables - 3/5
This is their take on a ratatouille. They made it with japanese eggplant this time around. It's ok if you need some fiber with the meal.

We actually ordered the chicken as well but the food came out so slow that we got really full half way through dinner service. I think we spent around 2.5 hours there and there were other tables who also seemed bored of waiting. Granted, I know the kitchen probably makes everything to order but I just wish it was a little faster
