We had an early dinner here on a Wednesday prior to a theatre tech rehearsal. Despite the troubled neighborhood, this place is an urban oasis and has a safe parking lot. We told our kind wait person, Sierra, about our time crunch. Meals came out within 10 minutes of giving our order. The gourmet Mexican food is mucho delicious and the happy hour prices (on both food and drink) made our experience a delight.

Definitely a delightful departure of cookie-cutter US Mexican food, while still having the same concepts. For example, I had the enchiladas mole - hardly a radical departure, but the flavors would rich and the chicken moist. One of the best I've had. My wife had the chicken with four chili sauce - again, surprising, flavorful and delicious. We went for the Capirotada for dessert, and it did not disappoint.
If you want a great place for Mexican food extremely close to Downtown Los Angeles, you need to come to YXTA COCINA MEXICANA. The restaurant is set in an almost warehouse looking environment, with all it’s charm. Francesca greeted us and brought us to our table. We were immediately approached by Amie, who not only was extremely friendly and cordial, she was also knowledgeable. She was quick to offer us the specialty drinks. She took our drink order (the mango margarita?…oh my)! She brought us the drinks very soon after with, along with a big bowl of house made tortilla chips….these are the best that we ever had. They come with a house made salsa, which was so flavorful. We didn’t have to wait to long at all for our meal. We had tacos and wow, were they good. They are served on a bed of chipotle mashed potatoes, which was a flavor treat on your pallet. Amie was so very attentive. She made sure that we had the best experience possible…and we did. You gotta check out YXTA. Your taste buds will thank you.
