On my last trip to LA, I ventured around K-town and came upon this stand inside one of their malls. I wondered what these walnut treats were like and on a whim, I ordered a handy box. They even spoke to me in Korean, but unfortunately, I don't speak it even though I have watched K-dramas extensively for years! I only know little phrases which probably wouldn't help me at all! The lady who helped me probably thought I should know how to speak my own language! hehe Sorry, I only speak English because I'm not Korean. In any case, back to these fine, little confections. To my surprise, these treats are soft, delicate walnut looking cakes that are filled with a half walnut and red bean paste. They were wrapped in paper and twisted on top then bagged in a ziploc and put into a box. Great for gifting, snacking, or a little something sweet after a meal!

I am usually happy with the walnut pastry here. The older gentleman is always very kind and service is excellent. Today cashier older lady tried to sell me the pastry that was made yesterday and for same price and I told her no. The purpose of buying these pastry earlier in the morning is because I want a fresh made batch not old ones from day before. When she hand me the pasty she said its very hot and I was happy that it is but when I got home to eat some of pastry was smushed and one of the pastry paper wrapper was torn and ripped. I am very unhappy with it. It is crucial to check it before handling it to the customer. I am not supporting this business anymore.

Healthy snacks that taste good

It's open, but inside the new H Mart, tucked all the way in the back corner. Fantastic as always.

Cocohodo is a chain from Korea. I first had it there a decade ago and was thrilled to find that they have it here. If you're into red bean inside your pastry shaped like a walnut with ample amounts of walnuts you can taste in each bite, this is the place for you. In fact, i don't want this type of pastry anywhere else, as it's always inferior. Trust me. This brand makes it best. These also make a good gift. Each piece is wrapped individually and the presentation is also on point.

I have never heard of these walnut pastries before. I was just browsing on yelp and came across this place and decided to check it out. It is freaking delicious and amazing I am not usually a fan of walnuts but this pastry mixes a walnut with some red bean filling and it is the best thing ever! I got 9 pieces for $4.75. It is located into Zion market back left where all the to-go foods are sold. I will def be coming back for more

Cocohodo is a little shop inside ZionMarket to the far left corner where all the to-go food options are located. They specialize in hodo-gwaja which is a walnut shaped pastry filled with super smooth red bean paste. The outside dough is lightly sweet (vanilla) and similar to a pancake texture. A few pieces of walnut are incorporated within the dough. This specialty walnut pastry shop was attended to by a lady who seemed to be managing multiple stalls. She was on the phone prior to our arrival. Seeing that we were interested in purchasing something, she walked over from another stall nearby and continued her phone conversation. After a few moments of awkwardness, I pointed to the sign to tell her which size I wanted. She ended the call and grabbed a bag. Minus stars because she didn't wash her hands and just opened a cooler box to retrieve 10 pieces using her hands. Luckily, each walnut pastry was individually wrapped. As for freshness, I can't tell how fresh these walnut pastries are since the styrofoam-looking box with lid was just on the counter. It tasted fine though but just a word of caution. Our small bag of 10 pieces was $4.75 which is a great price point. I'll probably buy the medium bag for just under $10 next time. They keep well refrigerated in Tupperware and instructions say you can freeze them too. I'll probably make the trip down to Buena Park next time since they seem to be freshly baked at that location. Overall, I appreciate that the bagged pieces are the same quality as the gift box pieces. They are not leftovers or odd shaped balls recovered during the gift box assembling process. Cocohodo has "cracked the walnut" and transformed it into a popular snack for all to enjoy.

When a shop sells just one thing, it's usually pretty good. Case in point, Cocohodo only sells the best little nuggets of cake with walnuts and sweet bean paste. The walnut shaped cakes are individually wrapped and sold by the bag or box. They're perfect with coffee or tea and I can't just eat one. Addicting! That's why I usually get a small bag of 10. Interestingly, the cakes are sold warm though I've never seen them being made. The cake is more like a pancake with big chunks of walnuts and a sweet bean paste center. This Cocohodo is located inside Zion market near the prepared foods. I wonder if being in a market is their "thing" because the first Cocohodo I tried was in a market in Honolulu. It's probably a good thing there isn't a Cocohodo near me because I'd probably get a bag every day.

It's tucked away inside the Zion market/groceries. It's against the wall and behind a hoetteuk/boonguhbbang place. As for parking, valet 30 min parking is $5, BUT the $2 validated parking is next to that lot. Street parking is plenty during weekdays as wellThe hodo-gwaja are delicious. Tastes authentic and a small bag is only $4.50 (has ~12 pieces). Highly recommended

Super tasty sweet red bean and walnut pastry in the shape of a walnut. Especially good when still warm!

The location is super duper hidden within a Zion Market mall, within the Zion Market. I walked in late one day and tried to follow my nose, but Cocohodo was pretty much done for the night. Nope no fresh warm one's for me, but the trip wasn't a waste either. Here's the thing: even with Cocohodo closed, they leave out a couple gift boxes of their bready thingy's out on the counter. I scored the last box.-=-Cocohodo's-=- I ain't gonna act like I know the real name of these pastries, but I got a box of 12 of them for research's sake. It's like pancake, red bean, and walnut, so simple, so cheap. Never eat these cold. NEVER. 15 secs in the nuker will do it.
