Very good. Google Maps said I had not visited in 4 years. Ouch. Used to visit several times a year. The taste and size of the fish portions are the same, but I also agree there is a bit less fish inside the batter. But what are you going to do. Getting less for more has been a thing since forever. And I've tried other fish and chip places and none can match the taste and crunchy yummy batter. I like salt too but this fish has never had much. I also love the Zucchini and mushrooms battered up and fried. Chips have never been anything special, just frozen crinkle fries. I don't know what "authentic" fish and chips should taste like but H Salt has good food. Need spice? That's what the malt vinegar is for, or my favorite the Tarter sauce. Go ahead and double/triple dip. Good stuff.

During my recent visit to H. Salt Fish & Chips in West Los Angeles, I stumbled upon a hidden gem worth revisiting. Here's my comprehensive review: Food Quality and Affordability: 4.5/5 H. Salt Fish & Chips offers excellent food at a very reasonable price point. I opted for the London combo (2 fish and chips), shrimp and chips, and their delectable calamari rings. Each dish was freshly battered and fried upon order, boasting a light and crispy texture. The seafood was notably fresh, bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Warm Hospitality and Clean Environment: 5/5 The owners, a delightful couple, added a personal touch to my dining experience. Their warmth and hospitality contributed significantly to the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The interior was impeccably clean, devoid of any unpleasant odors, ensuring a comfortable dining environment. Highlights: Among the standout dishes were the London combo and shrimp and chips. The London combo offered generous portions, while the shrimp was succulent and flavorful. Additionally, the calamari rings were a delightful surprise, boasting a perfect balance of tenderness and crispiness. Overall Impression: H. Salt Fish & Chips in West Los Angeles is a charming establishment offering high-quality seafood at affordable prices. Despite minor preferences in the menu and a few missing items, the restaurant's warm hospitality and excellent food make it a worthwhile dining destination. Rating: 4/5 Based on my experience, I would rate H. Salt Fish & Chips an overall score of 4 out of 5. Whether you're craving classic fish and chips or exploring their seafood offerings, this establishment delivers on both taste and value.

No FLAVOR! No seasoning AT ALL! Not even a little bit and it's expenisiiiiiiiiive! For 3 people we paid over $70 and we couldn't even enjoy it and we drove from Westchester. Would never go again! I prefer the location that was in Gardena. This was a waste of gas and money. I usually take pictures of my food but it just wasn't worth it.

It used to be acceptable. But yesterday, it was fried dough and chips. The fish was invisible. The ratio was 1part fish 4 parts dough. So disappointed. A waste of money. Not going back there again.

I love h.salt fish and chips. However, the last time I was in there, the batter was really chewy! It wasn't crispy at all.

Inedible. Fish had thick batter, tasted stale though outside was hot and crispy. Chips were from frozen, cold and not crispy. I did not eat it.

Prompt service, clean tables, food served hot with lots of condiments. Other reviewers have compared the fish and chips favorably to fare offered by 'chippys' in the UK. I've eaten fish & chips in England and I think the comparisons are unwarranted. However, since I'm not a Brit, I will limit my comparison to the H Salt Fish & Chips I grew up eating here in Southern California. I wish I could say this brought back memories, but it did not. The batter recipe, the oils used, the fish selected, and the quality of the 'chips' are a far cry from the old H Salt. The owners evidently have access to the name--but not to authentic ingredients or cooking methods. For those whose reviews focused on the ungreasiness of the fish, I have bad news: fish & chips is SUPPOSED to be greasy! It's not health food, people. As for the so-called chips, their flavor and consistency matter, and crinkle-cut French fries are NOT chips. So thumbs up for trying, thumbs up for cleanliness, thumbs up for politely dealing with your customers. But this is H Salt in name only; the fish and chips were sadly disappointing.

Not very many H. Salts left, but this is my go to place for tasty fish, shrimp and clam strips.

The food here is great. I'm from the UK and the fish is pretty damned close to real Chippy fish. The chips not so much, but they're a million times better than regular fries. Also, the couple who run and own the place are lovely. But.... They've lost my business as they seem to suffer from the thing many LA take out places suffer from. And that is that they randomly decide their opening and (more importantly) closing times on a day to day basis. They're listed on Yelp and other online places as being open until 10pm. And twice now I've made a special drive across town for my fish and chips and they've been closed. Yesterday I arrived at 8:55pm, over an hour before they're listed as closing, and they were closed and cleaning up. So we went next door and got El Polo Loco instead.

This is a hidden gem in West LA. Very affordable and the food is excellent. We got the London combo (2 fish and chips), shrimp and chips, and fried mushroom. Their food is battered and fried upon ordering. The batter is light and not heavy at all. The seafood is fresh and with great taste. The plate comes with an assortment of condiments: malt vinegar, tartar sauce, ketchup, and cocktail sauce. The couple who runs the restaurant are the sweetest people, which made the dining experience all the better. The inside was very clean and no fishy smell either! Overall a great dining experience and will definitely be back.
