I am local to the area but I think they must have thought I was a tourist. I saw beautiful fresh sushi and the tables around me and when my food was served it was old looking dry and the fishy taste lingered in my mouth the rest of my evening. I didn’t want to be rude so I forced the tuna and salmon down but had the busser take the rest (I have never sent food back or complained at a restaurant in my life and this review is the first negative thing I have ever expressed) I thought about ordering something else but before I could they put the bill on the table. I said I’d like to order dessert and they said I wouldn’t like it so I just paid and left. I was so disappointed and disgusted with the roe that was shriveling the way old blueberries would. I was expecting to find a new favorite place near home with an authentic experience and unfortunately I am instead writing this review, also a first but it was that bad. I will stick to sushi in East LA or head north. My mistake for going in first place.

Not sure why it’s so highly rated. It’s like they vibe coded sushi. It checks the boxes for sushi but if you grew up eating sushi - then this place is horrible.

Very solid sushi with an old school vibe. Sit at the sushi bar and have a great time. Cash only

Customer service was great, everyone was super friendly and attentive. But the sushi itself was pretty underwhelming for me. I’ve never seen portions that small, and the flavors were just a little plain. It wasn’t bad, just not great, and definitely not what I expected for the price. Overall, good service but the sushi needs improvement.

What's so nice about Hide sushi is that the food quality is consistently good and fresh.

Amazing LA hole in the wall with over the top sushi and hand rolls. 100% must get the albacore.

Today’s experience at this sushi restaurant was extremely disappointing.
Our waitress was terrible — she took our order wrong, and instead of salmon, we got tuna. When we asked for a change, her attitude was completely unprofessional. What made it even worse, she kept saying “OK, OK” at the end of every sentence in a tone that felt condescending, as if she were talking down to students. All seven of us found it very rude and uncomfortable.
If the owner ever reads this, I strongly suggest proper staff training because this kind of service is unacceptable. Also, I noticed a sign that says “cash only.” Refusing credit cards might be an attempt to avoid taxes, which is illegal and very suspicious.
The cash only policy with an atm that charges a fee is super annoying, also didn’t think the food and service were that good. Choose another sushi restaurant.
** Important to note: this spot is cash only! **
A superb hole-in-the-wall sushi spot in Sawtelle that deserves a spot in your sushi rotation! I had walked past this spot a handful of times, but never gone in. Oh my goodness, the salmon nigiri might be the best I’ve ever had. Such buttery salmon, we had to order more before we left it was so good. The wait staff were friendly, the food was prepared quickly, and the interior was decorated nicely!

I booked a tiny chef’s counter and appreciated the personalized attention: the chef explained each piece and why it was paired with a specific sauce. Fish tasted fresh and the rice had a good balance of seasoning and temperature. It’s not cheap, but the intimacy and quality justify it for a special night. The room seats maybe a dozen, so it feels exclusive without being showy. Reservations recommended

The sushi here is da best ! It’s so fresh plus they have some combinations that I haven’t seen at other places. The service here is fast and good. They are cash only so make sure to have cash before you stop by here. There is an atm inside the restaurant aswell. It’s always a pleasure visiting this place.

It’s so sad that it does not taste good as years before. Disappointing.
A small and cozy shop with authentic vibes and great food.

The food might be good, but the customer service is downright awful. We were seated and then completely forgotten, no menus, no drink orders, nothing. We sat there for 10 minutes like we were invisible until we got up and hunt down a server just to get a menu. We finally managed to order some sushi, but couldn't order a second round, because once again, not a single server in sight would pay any attention to us. We left still hungry and incredibly frustrated, after wasting $80 just to be ignored. Don’t bother coming here unless you enjoy being treated like an afterthought.

Our new favorite sushi joint. Fresh fish, nice ambiance and friendly service that isn't over the top. Vegetables and all ingredients seem really fresh. Bring cash (no cards), great value for the price in today's world
