We have been to multiple Katsuya locations more than 50 times since our first visit in 2006. Last night in Hollywood we had 10 guests and the food was surprisingly bad for the first time. Crispy shrimp was soggy, popcorn shrimp was slimy, and multiple other dishes were poorly prepared. Not sure what happened to the chef, but not one of the 10 people thought the food was even average. We are going to Brentwood on Monday night and will determine whether we ever return after that.
The mood was awesome when we arrived. Our server was excellent ✅✅. After that it quickly changed lol. The mood was quickly thrown off by the DJ, who didn't quite know what mood to set and was mixing too much for the ambience of the place, specially dinner time. The food was bland. I order the grilled chicken, the sauce made it work but the chicken itself was not season well. We also ordered lobster fried rice and that fried rice was so bland we couldnt eat it. The best thing was the yellow tail Nigiri. Overall I give this place a 3 for the looks and server.
We are great fans of Katsuya, go to Woodland Hills about 3 to 4 times a month, encino about every few months. I like the menus at those two spots much better, bigger variety and much less expensive. Also Hollywood is much darker it was hard to see the menu even with the little table lites. No complaints about the food it was delicious. Perhaps the over priced menu was because it is a tourist destination or rent is very high.?
As with everywhere else, they've decreased their menu offerings and not necessarily with the best that they had pre-Covid. Still it's pretty expensive for not having a lot of choices. It's horribly noisy in the main dining room, but they've added more tables on the other side, so it's kinda crowded. Guess we'll take the noisy side vs the crowded side. We continue to go because they're close to the Pantages.
We had a wonderful experience. It was my first time going and Juan was great. The food was wonderful, we ordered crispy rice, rock shrimp, double tuna roll, and tomahawk short ribs
I ordered this on Postmates, and it came in plastic restaurant go containers ,not an actual issue, but vs the presentation on app and previous times I’ve ordered this was wild. However I have actual fish allergies and they don’t allow for allergy subs on the app, no problem, I ordered shrimp, tuna, crab and himachi. Zero shrimp came, 4/6 pieces of what looks like a Philly roll arrived containing Salmon, that I AM allergic to and now I’m not comfortable eating anything that arrived, because of a complete lack of attention to the order. This is wildly disappointing for a $75 order.

If you appreciate really good sushi, you owe it to yourself to visit. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly host who seated me immediately. The dining room is well appointed, with subdued lighting, and a great vibe. There is both table seating as well as seating at the sushi bar, both being very comfortable. Prices are in line with the quality of the food. I ordered the Sushi Moriwase and was not disappointed. The portion size was perfect for me, although someone with a lighter appetite might share this plate. I also want to suggest the Katsuya Fresh cocktail, which was a perfect accompaniment with the meal. I might add that I am not generally a vodka fan, but this drink was absolutely outstanding!
Food is always wonderful, service always harried but steady. It's helpful that the waiters ask/know if you need to be out in time to catch a performance at the Pantages. We always go back!
Everything was good (service and food), but really not much has changed in the past decade when this was a hot spot in LA. Decor and ambience feels trapped in 2012, which is probably the last time I visited this location. Food was good, but overpriced for the portions and quality. If you can get a spot at the bar for happy hour, it's worth it! The experience was more positive than negative, but just a little lackluster for me.
Best decision ever! My daughter and I dined at Katsuya Hollywood pre-Hamilton on a Saturday evening. From greeting to service to food, the experience was excellent. The greeter was super friendly and accommodating especially since I called to say we were running 20 minutes late. We were seated immediately, and our waiter greeted us quickly. He asked if we were planning to catch the 8:00pm performance of Hamilton so he could time our dining experience. We ordered right away taking two of his recommendations; both outstanding. We had the cucumbers, Brussel sprouts, spicy tuna crispy rice, vegan avocado crispy rice (my favorite and I'm not even vegan), bake crab rolls (1st recommendation), and rainbow roll. Each item was beautifully prepared and delicious. We ended by sharing the miso chocolate cake with ice cream and caramel sauce (2nd recommendation). Our back-up wait staff were polite and attentive refilling our waters and taking away dishes as needed. We will make it our go to place for Pantages performances. Thank you Katsuya for an excellent start to our wonderful evening. Side note: Park 1/2 block from Katsuya at 1627 Vine Street for $10 parking from 6:00pm to 6:00am.

I usually have dined there once a year for many years. I like the decor and the creative aspect of some of the menu items. I usually inquire what sort of oil they use in the deep fryer - the answer was Canola oil. A few years back it had still been Rice Bran oil. Of course, Canola oil is by far the cheapest oil that can be used in the kitchen because it is highly processed, washed with chemicals to remove the smell, taste and color. This treatment with Hexane really upsets my stomach. So, not only was anything deep-fried off the menu for me, but I also found out that most meat and fish items (such as the Hamachi color) where prepared with Canola oil. What a shame .. just to save some money while otherwise using top ingredients. It is the wrong place to save money. The music was rather loud ... I mean, the large dinning room had maybe 6-7 tables occupied. So, why crank obnoxious music ... it is not going to create the "cool" atmosphere. I did request the music to be turned down, but that had little effect. Why is having to shout at your dinning partner considered a great experience? Well ... it was probably my last visit ... sad to say.
I just want to say that Koda/Coda in the front as a hostess in the beginning of a beautiful experience at Katsuya. She handles high stress with such grace and lights up the place with her beautiful smile. Keep her there - she is AMAZING - so warm and lovely. 5 stars. Honestly the whole staff is amazing but Koda/Coda definitely is the highlight of the whole experience. Give her a raise !!!
I've been coming here for years, but the food is just not that great anymore. The crispy rice with avocado is basically a slabbered guacamole for $22 on crispy rice way too much money for their serving.
Food and service was excellent. We were going after dinner to see Hamilton, so the restaurant was location was also super convenient. Next time I will reserve a seat at the bar to see the sushi being made. My back was to the restaurant, so I couldn't enjoy the ambiance.
I had high hopes for this sushi restaurant given its reputation, but unfortunately, our experience was far from great. Despite the elegant ambiance and promising menu, the service was a major letdown. Our waiter forgot more than half of our order and seemed to disappear for long stretches of time, leaving us sitting at the table wondering where our food was. We had to flag down other staff multiple times just to check in. For a high-end establishment, this level of service is unacceptable. The food that did arrive was good, but the frustrating service completely overshadowed the experience.
