First visit. I asked what they recommended as a first time guest--Gorditas. Ordered 2 Gorditas. 1 mixed carnitas and 1 Al pastor. They come with beans, lettuce, and the protein of your choice. Would not order again. There was so little protein I could not see any meat on either of the gorditas. I felt like I had a bread sandwich with some lettuce and a smear of beans. Literally the equivalent of a bite of an average taco worth of meat in each $5.39 gordita. Both proteins tasted the same. Very little flavor. Had an agua fresca spinach/lime. Excellent flavor. $4.50 a medium glass with a lot of ice. Left the place hungry and unsatisfied with my food order. Wall menu had no prices. Please have a menu with prices.

The food is great. Just be aware you'll be charged a service fee on top of everything else for using a debit or credit card.. And it's not a flat fee. The more you buy the higher the fee... SmhAlso same guy that owns this place owns the Gordita place in El Mercadito.
La Cocina is a classic Mexican food spot, and has so many great food, snack and dessert choices. The staff are amazing, and I know them personally. Love this place.

The food is very plain in terms of flavor. If you prefer milder flavors, which some people do, and you're in the mood for Mexican, this place might be a good fit for you. A pro is that their food is filling, which is always a plus. Also, the prices are cheap. As for the salsa, they gave me a red one with a slightly sour taste and a medium spicey. If you crave something without being overwhelming, this is also a good spot.

Holy Gordita!!!First time at La Cocina...Don't be fooled by the humble exterior...This place has been slinging some of the best Mexican food in North East Los Angeles for over 40 years!!!I ask the lady at the counter what the specialties are... "we are known for the gorditas - they're really popular"You don't say....BEST DAMN GORDITA EV-ERI got the Carne Asada ... but the Masa !!! THE MASA - all done by hand right in front of you... it's all about the flavor of that MASITA!!! Yes THANK YOU !!! COME AGAIN!!!!EXTREMEEEEHAROLD AND KUMAR would of stopped dreaming about WHITE CASTLE once they glimpsed any notion of LA COCINA's EXISTENCE!!!Hey that gives me an idea for a new cologne brand name - EXIST - ENCE !!!
