I've been looking for good Chinese food for a while and I think I found it! Honey walnut shrimp and green beans were amazing. The crispy tofu was surprisingly great too (something I wouldn't normally try)

As always such delicious food! The ribs were delicious and the chicken with broccoli and garlic sauce was amazing!! I get the majority of my dishes gluten free and it's wonderful that they know how to make this accommodation. I will only provide provide photos for these two items and when I get ready to devour the rest of my order I will finish my review and provide more photos! Order from Mandarette!!

Tried Mandarette Cafe for the first time tonight and was excited to find a Chinese restaurant with a lot of gluten free options but unfortunately the food was just not good. The gluten free orange chicken was rubbery/chewy and not crispy at all - it was more what I'd expect if leftover orange chicken was microwaved the next day - and it was lacking flavor . The beef dish we got was also lacking flavor. We ordered take out and they said the food would only take 5-10 minutes which made us think maybe they're reheating food rather than making it fresh. That would account for the super chewy chicken. Rice was good and the pan fried green beans were great. For $70 it didn't quite feel worth it, but maybe we ordered the wrong things. Our search for good gluten free Chinese food continues.

I dined with some fellow foodies last night and the food was spectacular. i order delivery with some frequency but in-person it was even better. Seriously, Mandarette is arguably the best Chinese cuisine in LA.Its a neighborhood treasure.Vegetarian options: A lot of options! I especially liked the green beans in garlic. A huge portion and so fresh and tasty.Dietary restrictions: The menu is so diverse its easy to meet dietary restrictions.

I haven't written a review in about 7 years but after dining here, I must share a warning signal... My neighbor, who is nearly 80, suggested going to dinner here-- he had been coming since the mid 1980's. Here are my complaints, which gets worse progressively: 1. We ordered wonton soup, steamed fish w garlic sauce, and my neighbor had a glass of wine. The soup's wontons were filled with what could only be described as mystery meat and had a strange odor to them. The chicken in the soup was spongey. It was impossible for me not to experience the fish's garlic sauce as the exact consistency of Nine Lives meaty chunks cat food. None of this is a big problem but letting you know, the food we ordered missed the mark. 2. The bill came and my friend had taken out his credit card. A few minutes later, the waitress came rushing back to the table, took the bill (and not his card) and came back to the table with a new, revised bill. My friend had a second glass of wine and they forgot to include it. I thought that was poor taste, especially since my friend had been a patron for over 30 years! So now instead of $74 it's near $90-- for food we didn't enjoy. 3. We pay the bill and leave. We walk about 2 blocks and the waitress comes running towards us saying we took the merchant copy instead of the customer copy. Keep in mind my friend is almost 80. So he re-signs the bill in the middle of the street and that's when I said, "hey, I'm sorry to say this but I thought it was not a good practice of the restaurant to serve us a bill, then realize YOUR mistake, swipe the bill in an urgent manner and replace it with one of higher cost." No response. In short, there are other Chinese food restaurants that don't serve what I could only describe as 'wet' food, and I think overall, if you have a patron coming for multiple decades and your staff makes a mistake on the bill, you can't swipe it away. That was what did it for me-- never going back and from the empty feel of the dining area, perhaps other patrons have made a similar decision.

My first experience with the salt and pepper tofu was not bad; it had a decent flavor that sparked my interest in craving tofu. However, during my second visit, I found it disappointing and, unfortunately, couldn't finish it. Both experiences were for take out so I can't give any feedback on service or the vibe of the place itself. Don't have experience with anything else but I commend their inclusivity with dietary restrictions, particularly with Gluten Free folk. Good job there!

Wow. This is actually one of the best Chinese food spots I have EVER had— if not THE best! Being from NY I never felt like any Chinese food places in LA really met my standards but I was completely blown away with this place. The menu is huge and the portions are generous. I’ll be telling all my local friends about this place!!

This place has seriously gone down hill. 8pm on a Thursday night nobody in the restaurant. The beef they used in the sizzling beef was a low quality spongy grisly meat with sliced raw onions on top. Just horrible. The sesame chicken was full of hard greasy low quality chicken. I also had the chow mein which was decent but these 3 small portion dishes cost a whopping $80 for pick up. Not even delivery. What a joke. Probably cost them $5 to make. Not cool.

I would like to try your restaurant but their is the sketchiest tent / drug dealer setup right outside your restaurant. It’s the only tent on the street, they either need to call the police or get them to move. Makes this restaurant completely unattractive with this right outside.
