Very nice friendly table service

Traditional diner that does not have enough wait staff. Service can be slow. Food is OK. Nothing great. It is expensive. And they have fees. Their credit card machine tries to have you tip 40%. That is ridiculous.

M&R’s is a fantastic treasure here on the Westside that you will not find anywhere else. Amazing old school food with plenty of new school options and twists. Part diner, part coffee shop, part California, this is a special spot I love! Great service and cooked to order. Max and Helen’s is just trying to recreate what M&R’s has done deliciously for years.

Went for breakfast and had a breakfast burrito - really well served, however thought it was missing some seasoning in the food. The place was quiet and very clean. Food was served quickly. More expensive considering options near by.

Overall a bit too pricey. $6 for ice tea that was colored water? Ordered a omelet with berries. Omelet was very good, but the amount of sausage and bacon was minimal. The chili made it delicious. Berries were a $5 upcharge which was a bit steep. Pulled at least 10 stems off the blueberries. $80 for two people!

When near UCLA this is my go to lunch spot. Never disappoints. Excellent service, clean, broad menu choices. Friendly wait staff that always make you welcome and never make you feel rushed. Fun decor as well!

Disappointing Experience – Overpriced and Poor Customer Service
I’m a local neighbor who went in with good intentions for my first bagel and lox plate. Unfortunately, the coffee was sitting out, cold, and muddy. When I asked the server to remove it from my check, she refused.
The bagels themselves were small and tasted like they were bought from Costco — honestly pretty horrible. Even so, the lox plate $23.00, had a generous amount of food, so I asked for an extra bagel. I wasn’t told upfront that it would cost an additional $6.50 on top of the $23 dish I had already ordered. Had I known, I would have packed the plate to go.
I called to speak with the manager, and she was equally rude and dismissive about making things right for a guest. She offered me a free cup of coffee on my next visit, but had the nerve to lecture me that “nothing is free” and that the extra bagel was $6.50.
We have different cultures in America — some businesses truly appreciate their customers, while others are willing to lose them forever over $10 and a bad attitude.
I will never return. Truly disappointing and shameful. Breakfast shouldn’t cost $80.00 for two people including a 20%, $13.00 more than generous gratuity.
And they have the nerve to charge 3% credit card surcharge!!!
I highly advise to stay away.

Your typical diner with a nicer atmosphere (they really like their Elvis). Service was excellent, but food was only okay.

Great brunch spot with a cozy wooden, old-house vibe. Very comfortable space. The scrambled eggs are delicious and the hash browns taste like real potatoes - definitely recommend!

Hi. My husband and I eat here about once a week. Folks, it’s a diner not fine dining, but for a diner the food is really good. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere cozy. It’s a family business and their attention to detail shows. Good chili, good burgers good house made salad dressings, especially the ranch, Fresh salads and variety of breakfast options.

Super disappointed in this place. Super pricey for subpar taste and portions. Ordered the Santa Fe scramble with hashbrowns. Looks like they just gave me the burnt top of the hashbrowns… there was nothing under it. Waitress was rude and pushy for us to get our orders in.

This diner was right up my alley! Had two eggs over easy with corned beef hash and tomato slices with sourdough toast. Very tasty breakfast and great service!
