Insanely delicious!! price can be quite pricey but honestly 1 is more than enough to leave you stuffed. I love the spicy tuna one, but the curry and soft shell crabs one are also one of the best! try try try!!

First saw/heard about this place at the Granada Hills Grubfest!! We go here pretty often so it was nice to see a new face in town. I looooove spam Musubi and this is basically what it is but loaded! I tried their California Supamu because I was feeling that avocado and my bf got the All-American Supamu. Both absolutely delicious and filling! The sizes are huge, not like a regular spam musubi. I haven't seen them since so I'm hoping they'll come visit again soon! Would love to try their other items. IG: @ammysalamii

Was able to try this truck out today, and I loved it. Definitely would recommend the curry croquette. The truck definitely offers something different and delicious. I'm going back next time to try everything else. You gotta stop by and grab a bite there too!

When I stopped by several months ago, Supamu was operating out of the Melrose Food ghost kitchens here at 615 N. Western Ave. Supamu's website now indicates that they've shifted to a 100% food truck operation. Either way, you'll find a unique "Okinawan" take on onigiri here. These aren't going to be the tightly wrapped rice triangles that you might be used to seeing at 7-11s throughout Japan. Instead, they feel like semi-deconstructed, sandwich-like creations where the seaweed isn't tightly wrapped around the rice and fillings but instead is a simple shell for the underlying ingredients, in the same way that, say, a tortilla would be with a taco. The "classic" supamu ($5.50), for example, featured spam and sweet egg tamago inside the seaweed wrapper. A tad basic and pricey at $5.50, but the flavor combination of seaweed, egg, and spam was comforting, delightful, and very familiar if you've ever had Japanese onigiri or Hawaiian spam musubi. I found that pricier, more tripped-out versions were more worth it, even if the prices start to give you pause. The curry croquette supamu ($8.75), for example, added a curry croquette, sesame slaw, and a choice of either tonkatsu or tartar sauce to everything in the base "classic" supamu. Well worth it. Here's hoping their shift to a 100% food truck operation means that at least they can have more control over their execution and keep more of their hard-earned sales. Not a bad idea, Okinawa-style onigiri sandwiches, with a solid (if slightly messy-- if well contained!) execution. What gives me pause is that, well, there's only so many ways to make rice and seaweed and spam interesting. The breakfast one adds in a hash brown and cheese, which you would think, how could you go wrong with a fresh crispy hashbrown?? However, it does get a bit lost with all that rice, and carbs-on-carbs is a bit excessive. The soft shell crab is a bit similar, the delicacy of the crab is nicely preserved but ultimately overwhelmed by so much rice and spam. A cheaper protein would basically go unnoticed if you switched it in, because honestly, the soft shell crab is kind of lost. They have quite a few sandwiches on offer, maybe I just need to try a few different ones??

I saw this food truck parked around my office for several weeks, and I finally decided to give it a try. I don't usually order from food trucks. Curry croquette (4 stars): the curry croquette was fried to perfection. It came with either the tartar sauce/bbq sauce. I went with the tartar, not a fan, doesn't really go well with the curry croquette. It actually tastes great all on its own, no additional flavorings are needed. Unagi (3.5 stars): it was good, but at times the spam flavor is overpowering the unagi. The avocado is a nice touch, as it evens out the harsh saltiness of the spam. I didn't have to wait very long for my orders to be ready, ~15 minutes or so. Parking was no issue. But it is on the pricier side and the portions are quite small. I would actually prefer more rice to even out the saltiness of the spam and it will be more filling. Would I give it another go, unlikely. But it's worth a try, especially if you really like spam.

I love the wide variety of food trucks that are available in LA. I typically prefer the comfort of sitting down in a restaurant, but admittedly, some of the best food is hidden in migrating food trucks. Supamu is one such example of an amazing food truck. I saw it across from where I work one day, so I decided to do some research. Supamu specializes in Okinawa style pork tamago onigiri. It resembles musubi, although it is commonly found in Okinawan bentos. Whereas musubi are fairly small and snack sized, the Okinawan onigiri is closer to a sandwich, with nori on the outside, and then rice, egg, spam, and other fillings on the inside. I've had musubi many times, and I had to give Supamu a try. I came here with my wife, and we got the spicy tuna onigiri and the takoyaki onigiri. The spicy tuna comes with avocado. Both onigiri were made to order, requiring a 15 minute wait. The wait was well worth it. The tuna, egg, and spam go very well together, giving it a nice kick. I was very full, but my parents tried the takoyaki onigiri and apparently it was amazing. My father does not particularly like Japanese food and even he loved the takoyaki onigiri. I am definitely trying this place again.

I've passed by this spot many times and didn't really think too much about it. I decided one day instead of having my usual "tacos & or fried chicken diet", I ended up giving this place a try. The truck is usually located in front of Mitsuwa on Las Tunas drive, so luckily I wasn't really making a mission to drive out there. They have an extensive menu of the various types of meat within the spam masubi, or as they call it "supamu onigiri". You can also choose to add guacamole or flamin hot crumbs to your supamu. The pieces that I ordered today were: the big supamu, unagi supamu, and the soft shell crab supamu. Pricing for each was a bit pricy, it came out to almost $30 for 3 pieces. The wait wasn't too long as well, I had waited around probably 20 minutes max after ordering my food. Now let's get down to the food. I had thought it be a bit bigger, but the length of the onigiri came out to be around 4-5 inches in length. The big supamu was decent. It was basically your average spam masubi in my opinion. The unagi supamu was pretty good. I'm a s***** for unagi so i was definitely more biased towards this. You get around 2-3 small pieces of unagi along with 2-3 thinly slices of guacamole. Then the last order was actually crazy. Didn't think the pictures lived up to its expectations but I deadass had a whole deep fried soft shell crab in my onigiri. The crunch definitely added an interesting layer to the already sweet and salty spam and eggs. Overall, i think this place is worth a try one time. It is a bit pricy just be aware, but if you want to enjoy a fusion take on spam masubi, then this place is for you. Pretty cool idea, props to the owners for this execution.

Saw the yummies on SGV Eats group on FB and had to try for myself. Their menu has about 15 items and hubby and I shared 3 items. Classic: Tasty and good rice to meat ratio. Wish it was bigger. Sukiyaki: Similar to classic however only 2 small slices of beef sukiyaki. Organic Tofu: Nice big piece of fried tofu, need bigger jaw. We've travel to Okinawa before and spam is definitely a stable there just like in Hawaii. We do like how it's held like a taco and it's less rice so it's better ratio to the spam. This is more like a snack than a meal. For a meal you will probably have to order 3 for yourself. The two of us shared 3 and we did not feel stuffed at all. They are a bit pricey for such a small snack. The classic is $4.95 but everything else is average about $8-$10 each. Also, we had to wait close to 40 minutes for our order which was the biggest con for us. We would had been hangry if we were starving already. Overall I think it's good to try once for taste if you are in the area where their truck is parked. Followed for times and place on their IG @livesupamulife.

Had Supamu in SGV on a Sunday around noon. It was pretty busy and they stopped taking orders at one point. Thought the food was simply okay. My group got the Classic, California, Sukiyaki, and Takoyaki supamu's. The Classic lacked flavor, it would've tasted better with teriyaki sauce. The California was pretty good but the smallest slither of avocado was given. The Sukiyaki was okay. And the Takoyaki was okay. The more premium supamu's weren't worth the price. It might be if it was a little cheaper. Overall, didn't feel like the food was special enough.

I had a good first experience with Supamu that almost didn't happen. I looked at their IG page and most of their pictures are of their Blue truck so when I arrived at their location on Western, I expected to see that Blue truck. Turns out that the location on Western is a ghost kitchen and the Blue truck is used for pop ups. FOOD If you look at their menu, they have 12 musubis. I tried two of them. I liked both but enjoyed the soft shell crab one the most. Big Bfast - the hash brown adds a perfect crunchy contrast to the rest of the soft musubi. I chose spicy Mayo and it added a nice mild flavor. Nothing was overpowering. Soft shell crab - like the has brown in the big Bfast musubi, the soft shell crab added a perfect crunchy contrast to the rest of the musubi. SERVICE Their main location is a ghost kitchen on Western. You can show up and order from a kiosk, order from one of the food delivery services for pick up, or order from one of the food delivery services for delivery. They also use that blue truck for pop ups and you'll need to look on IG to see service times. PARKING Parking in the area isn't great. There is street parking (meter). You may be able to find parking on the residential streets behind but I didn't see any. TIP Order for pick up and eat it ASAP. Most of the ingredients are only good when fresh.
