Today, my family and I went to a Japanese restaurant Sushi Gen at Little Tokyo in Los Angeles downtown, which was quite busy everyday. It was our last dinner together before one of our family member moves away. After finishing our meal and paying the bill, I accidentally pricked my hand on a sharp, long pin stuck in the table. I informed the staff about it, but I was deeply disappointed by their attitude. All I wished for was a sincere apology from the staff for ruining our precious last meal together, but instead, the staff kept insisting it wasn't their fault and blamed it on the tablecloth supplier's mistake. Despite spending over $200 for a meal for three, I left without a single word of apology. It was a clear indication of how little regard this restaurant has for its many customers. It's undoubtedly a very disappointing restaurant. I hope other customers who visit this restaurant will carefully inspect if there are any sharp pins stuck in the table covers or dropped on the chairs. We came for the famous $23 lunch special and we’re not disappointed! The fish is extremely fresh and the portion of fish, rice, and appetizers was good for lunch. We also got the sushi deluxe combination to split. The sashimi lunch special was the best value item!Come early to wait! We got in line around 10:20 on a Tuesday morning and got in with the first group to be seated (they open at 11 and the line is pretty long by 10:30. We found out that the a la carte menu is only served at the bar so if you want to to order off the normal menu, make sure you grab a table instead of sitting at the bar.

Today, I tried to place a take out order. A female employee picked up the phone. She abruptly answers 1:30pm. There were no explanations. I asked her to explain. I said alright, then and she hung up.I have been there several times as a dine in customer. Our last female server gave us the cold shoulder and tried very hard to ignore me and our table. She was so abrupt in her responses. Maybe she did not want to work that evening? Her displeasure attitude was immediate when we were seated. She got a fair to good tip. Maybe she will reflect on that and provide better service to the next customer.The service we received we last received as dine in was borderline xenophobic to other Asians. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. The younger gentleman who took cleaned the table was professional and courtesy to everyone.
