The Sunset Restaurant Reviews
I brought an East Coast client here for dinner because there’s truly nothing like a December California sunset — and The Sunset Restaurant delivered perfectly.
The dining room glows at golden hour, with huge open windows that bring the ocean right into your table. It’s such a classic Malibu experience — warm, relaxed, and never overcrowded. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which is rare for a beachfront spot.
Our server was fantastic: friendly, attentive,...read full review
Made reservations through OpenTable for Valentines Day as my boyfriend and I were in town for the week. What a mistake...
Pull up, very busy parking lot/street parking for the restaurant. Thinking that's a good sign?
Go in, the older lady at the front desk looks frazzled and overwhelmed. She greets us with the best smile she could muster up and I tell her I have a reservation under my name. She responds with "Let me see if I can find you" as she scrolls her tablet....read full review
Des plats généreux avec un bon service (a la toulousaine 😉) nous y avons passé un bon moment. Lés huîtres californienne sont à essayer petites mais bonnes.

The Sunset Restaurant is a popular spot located right on the beach in Malibu, offering a beautiful setting for a sunset dinner or beachside lunch. It features a variety of dishes such as eggplant parm, fish sandwich, breakfast burrito, linguine clams, sea bass, chicken sandwich, and the best lobster tacos. The atmosphere is especially memorable with ocean and sunset views that attract many visitors. The upstairs area provides some water and beach views, although the sunset cannot be seen from the restaurant itself. The patio is dog-friendly, and parking is reasonable compared to other beachside restaurants nearby. While the food is generally considered average—flavors could be more expressive—the portions are decent, and the tropical drinks like Mai Tais are well-balanced and suited for the beach. Guests have enjoyed house-made guacamole and chips, as well as the bolognese and tiramisu. The restaurant is a great place to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves, especially during sunset. Service is generally fine and timely, with friendly staff, though some have noted that service can sometimes be slow. Seating is quick even without reservations, with plenty of options offering views across the street to the beach. Drinks and food are considered overpriced by some, but the wine list has excellent selections. The location alone makes it worth a stop, whether for a lunch, dinner, or cocktails. The restaurant has hosted events like fashion show viewing parties, where the atmosphere and friendly workers have made for a fantastic experience. Overall, The Sunset Restaurant is a chic and charming spot to enjoy the ocean scenery and a memorable sunset.
