Great dinner at Oni Kuma in Mill Valley next to Whole Foods. Food was excellent. A little of everything, from sushi to Yakitori and udon. Fresh and delicious. Service was great too. An easy place to go for Japanese food.
Kid-friendliness: We came with our school aged kids. They felt welcome here

Food was awful (cold) and not even close to authentic. Had a $75 lunch that included Unagi Don and black cod to tonkatsu. The unagi was hot but the rice was barely room temp. Awful. The black cod tonkatsu was room temp and had to send the rice back because it was cold. Add a $15 bottle of Kirin Ichiban beer and it was an awful experience. Lived in Japan and this is not Japanese food. Wanted to find a fun Izakaya style restaurant. This was not it….

The other reviewers seem to fail to recognize the ingredients being top-notch fresh, rich, aromatic and overall of high quality - as high quality as food in kyoto. This doesn’t just apply to the sushi fish, but surprisingly, the chicken karaage, its hollandaise sauce, and the homemade dessert menu (that has more than just matcha ice cream like other places). Very few Japanese restaurants around Marin get this right. Very few.
On the other hand, the contemporary Japanese wooden decor, the soft background music, and the handmade earthen ware work together to create a comfortable, peaceful, relaxing dining experience. True authentic ambience to enjoy a sushi dinner.
Overall, the experience shows the manager’s high attention to details and their willingness to go above and beyond to craft a great dining experience.

Great sushi, appetizers and grilled skewers. We ordered shaved ice for $10. Absolutely not worth it. Smallest serving size and by the time the dish arrived to our table, 80% was already melted. The syrup felt and tasted like jam, definitely not authentic. We didn’t try any other dessert.

Amazing restaurant. For an appetizer, I had the tangy wings. I had a Japanese curry next and it was delicious. I haven’t had curry like this since I’ve been in Japan. Great staff working here as well.

I came here for lunch and sat outside. Great atmosphere with nice music. Clean tables next to a wall with Japanese posters further adding to the experience.
The food was tasty and had terrific presentation. I ordered the Tempura Udon, Dynamite Roll and a Kirin Ichiban.

Cute and cozy ambience with dishes that warm the soul - al dente steamed vegetables with flavorful udon and green tea.

A friend and myself went and both of us got food poisoning. It was so bad and not something I usually get and emailed them to let them know. I was not asking for any change compensation -- just thought they should know as it was obvious where we had gone wrong. . no response. at all! So. In case they didn't see the email, I thought I would just let them know before writing any kind of review, but no absolutely zero response.. now. There is the review. I do not recommend this place nor do I recommy the management style

We really wanted to love this place. Seriously. Service is great, kind staff all around, great location & atmosphere. The problem? Food quality, authenticity, and portion as compared to price. Example: nigiri is sold by the individual piece - and it's tiny (as in Michelin star restaurant tiny - but quality doesn't match). Pickled vegetables haven't fermented long enough and do not turn out "pickled". Skewers have flavor and are not over-grilled but instead incredibly chewy (ex: squid has likely not been softened long enough). Hand rolls were disappointing (texture, fish quality, flavor) - for a fraction of the price, you can go to Pacific Catch and get the "same thing" - which deflates the experience of paying "top dollar" here.
Long story short - it is open 7 days a week and for longer hours than any other Sushi option in MV - a plus! Downside - all of the above. Don't take my word for it - check it out, order a bunch of different stuff etc. and come to your own conclusions. I would love to see this place succeed but the owners need to make some big changes to compete with Samurai just down the road.

Way too expensive!! 12$ for a beer. Nigiri 1 piece and sashimi 2 pieces….way too small….I could barely see them without my glasses. Highway robbery…..now I know why the place was empty on Saturday night. I do not recommend this place.
