Shau May is closed indefinitely due to the fire, which has also affected neighboring Happy Garden as well.

This is a Chinese-style fast food restaurant in the most concentrated area of Chinese. Because all the Chinese who live here are new to the United States, the business is very good. This shop has a long history and is very famous. There is a large parking lot at the entrance, but the parking spaces are basically full. The taste here is delicious, especially the price is very cheap, many people are here for lunch or dinner. With very little money, you can eat a few rich dishes, and it is a good choice to eat here.

Shau May is Kang Kang Food Court. I called to order pan fried dumplings and Xiao long bao. Unfortunately, I went to the wrong place and ended up at the Alhambra location (Garfield & Valley Blvd...next to The Hat) They said we do not have your order you must've ordered from the Monterey Park location (626) 571-2727...the number I called. Much to my dismay I went to 104 N. Garfield (next to the ABC restaurant) and couldn't find Kang Kang until I figured out it was Shau May Restaurant. So you're not confused Kang Kang has 3 locations. Monterey Park, Alhambra and Temple City. The Alhambra location phone number does not work. The panfried dumplings and xiao long bao were delicious. I would have given the five star, but due to my frustration and confusion they got bumped down to four-star.

Pandemic Era Review: 04/02/22Amazing place that has been serving the community for decades!!!This is a "picky-choosey" place where they have a huge display of food to choose from, but you can also order off the menu.Low prices (much lower pre-pandemic, which is amazing)Good taste.Generous servings, the container is packed good (maybe because I'm a big person?).I wish they gave more rice.HUGE VARIETY to choose from.No reservations, lots of seating (but this place is usually quite busy w/o a pandemic).Clean tables during the pandemic, but generally need a little to some cleaning during/after lunch.Indoor seating available.Mask on when moving around.Chance to practice your Cantonese (Chinese dialect)? lolPoint at the display or learn item/dish names :P****This place has MY FAVORITE egg tomato recipe made!!!!****I will literally travel here just to check out if they have egg tomato in their display...and order a 3 item container with all egg tomato!!! They make the ideal egg tomato in ANY restaurant I've visited.I don't remember the name of the item/dish ordered off the menu but the little bite-sized breads filled with meat are amazing!!! Each bite into one has hot soup/juices pour out!!! They are delicious and I highly recommend them!!!

As for a shanghai local, I would highly recommend this place for the shanghai pan fried bao 生煎包 and shanghai steamed small bao 小笼包 The pan fried bao very juicy with a thin skin and big piece of the meat inside. I wouldn't say it's 100% same as the famous shanghai ones but it's 90% similar and tasty. So far it is the best 生煎包 among LA area. And I bought the frozen shanghai steamed small bao for this restaurant too. The next morning I steamed it and it's pretty good too. I will go back and buy more

This is a hole in the wall kind of place. It's mainly for Togo but has plenty of seats inside. The parking has plenty of spots. It is extremely famous with their fried bao. This is featured in LA times actually. The price for food here is really affordable. Oh, the shave ice is great and really popular as well.

Been coming here since I was a kid and it's always a wave of nostalgia coming back! The places hasn't changed much (though the prices have gone up). Got the shaved ice which is always great but they have less toppings than they've had in the past. Definitely best with condensed milk added to the top!

This review is mainly for the Sheng Jian Bao (Shanghai fried buns). This has been our go to place for these buns for YEARS. It is quite honestly da bomb - both a comfort food and a guilty pleasure st the same time. Yes, there are other foods here with a sort of cafeteria style "special lunch" option that is well displayed and a kind of comfort food in its own right. But the Sheng Jian Bao is the no nonsense star of the show. Beautifully crisp bottoms, with doughy tops covering a succulent juicy soupy pork dumpling inside. Be careful when biting in as newcomers may not be prepared for the volcanic explosion of juices inside. Others know to take a small bite near the top and suck out the juice (similar to eating xiaolongbao), while mongers may tempt fate by engulfing the bun whole (after waiting for the temperature to calm down a bit). Also try the noodle house a few stores down (Mikey Chen says it's good!).

Extremely authentic Chinese takeout that my parents used to take me to all the time growing up. I came back recently and it still brings me nostalgia. It's weird writing a Yelp review for them as an adult. Shanghai pan fried pork buns. Absolutely YES. Their ice dessert too is always a hit. I get three toppings of almond jelly. This was the place that first introduced me to almond jelly and I've been obsessed since! This is also the place where I discovered watermelon juice but that's seasonal unfortunately (usually during summer months I think). For takeout, their meatballs and tofu meat are so good. Their mento is ok but very big and very cheap. Everything here is CASH ONLY. Thats why everything is so decently priced. Looking back now, I'm glad my parents brought me here to experience my authentic Chinese culture. I didn't appreciate it enough when I was younger.

Authentic Chinese fast food restaurant, you can choose dishes by yourself, with different collocations and different prices. The taste is delicious and the price is very cheap. Dining here does not feel like a restaurant in a Chinese city.

Best pork chop with noodles soup ( no 135) . Place is a bit dirty but food is really good.

Decent Chinese fast food for Asian people with varieties of home made food plus fruit topping snow icy deserts. I go to this place when i want something fast and good taste home made food. If you like to try other than fried rice or chow meen, this is the place to try.
