This was a delicious! We had about 6 dishes and we couldn't agree which was the best. The tea leaf salad was perfect. I loved the stream bean with palartha (bread). They must make the tofu in house because it was magical, smooth and delicious. Everything was flavored to perfection and the service was fantastic. I am a vegetarian and they were very accommodating about leaving fish sauce out of the dishes. It felt like being at a family friend's house.

It's been a while since I ate at this place, so decided to give another shot at this restaurant. The food hasn't improved to the traditional Burmese level. I ordered the dried boodle vermicelli soup with pork and traditional Burmese pork offal skewers. The food is too salty and a little overcooked for vermicelli and undercooked for meatballs from the soup. The portions were very small too. The price was reasonable but the owner doesn't seem to have interest in improving the quality of the ingredients, taste or presentation. Same cooks with the same patrons from the area might be all the business needs to survive. They got more tables inside yet maintaining the hole-in-a-wall vibe. They got a waiter now but English doesn't seem to be his forte. Overall, I don't think I'll be revisiting in the near future now that there are 3 other Burmese restaurants (Mandalay Morning Star Rangoon California and Irrawaddy Taste of Burma) that are offering much better food, ambience and prices.

We had a fantastic experience here, as well as delicious food. I love love their house made Burmese style tofu. But honestly everything we had was great! tea leaf salad, garlic noodle, soft tofu noodles, vermicelli, samusa, and coconut gel desert; top notch. The owners were so lovely and made my birthday celebration feel so special. And their recommendations & catering to our strict vegetarian options were really thoughtful. Thank you!Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian/vegan offerings but owner will adjust to make most all dishes vegetarian upon request

This is a very unassuming spot hidden in Monterey Park. When you first step in, it's a small spot that is ideal for smaller parties. This place is no frills because it's all about the flavor. When we arrived, we were the only ones there. Joan (sp) was super friendly and helpful. She patiently answered our questions about items on the menu that we were not familiar with. We started with the fried samusa with a dipping sauce. The wrap was thin and really crispy. While the potato filling was soft. Careful with the first bite since it's hot (temperature wise). It was delicious and the sauce was a nice addition. Next is the highly recommended tea leaf salad. It's a textured dish with a lot of brightness. It's refreshing and crunchy. My husband added rice to it as well to soften the bite. I can understand why so many people like it. Then came the garlic noodles with chicken. I personally love flat egg noodles since it's a fun chewy texture and it carries the sauce well. It's heavy on the garlic and packed with flavor. Last was the chicken and potato curry. It's a heavier dish. I think because the first few dishes were so flavorful, this one didn't shine as much but it's still good. We were given coconut jelly dessert. It's more dense than jello and very light to eat. Overall, those who like to trying something nee. Embrace the flavor, textures and sauces.

Ordered the Fish Paste with Tomato, Pork curry, and Shan noodle soup. This Fish paste with Tomato has a strong fish taste so this is best mixed with rice when consumed. The use of tomato lessens some of the intensity of the fish. The pork curry is similar to a classic chinese braised pork with some more of the oil cooked out of the pork into the curry. This is a pleasant dish with great aromatic flavor and a good portion of pork. The Shan noodle soup contains peanuts, pickled mustard and seasonings. The broth was placed separately to allow us to mix the noodles first. The noodles have the right amount of chewiness to them and the broth is very rich in flavor as a standalone too. This place is very much a hole in the wall, not too busy and service arrived at a decent pace. The atmosphere is not hip or trendy, it simply matches the ambiance of a nondescript traditional small restaurant. There is street parking either in front or around the corner of this quaint restaurant.Parking: Observe time limits of street parking in the area but it is largely convenient to find a spot.

Wow! Blown away by this tiny family run business. The service is top notch imo. We ordered 5+ dishes and the dishes came out within 5-10 minutes of ordering. Loved exploring a lesser known Asian cuisine and supporting small business. The samosas weee crispy on the outside and seasoned perfectly and soft in the inside. What a great portion size for the order too! We also tried the coconut noodle and a noodle with tofu. The coconut noodle was too heavy for us but we loved the tofu noodle! Tea leaves are a must. The Asian woman running this restaurant is so sweet and will help answer your questions about her culture's cuisine. Plenty of food and very reasonably priced!

The seasonings the flavors, All of it is excellent at this restaurant. The ambience is very casual and comfortable. My downside to the place would be that even though the flavors are delicious, and the meat products super flavorful, the meat could've been much more tender. Otherwise, this place is worth the visit.

First time trying Burmese food and it won't be the last time!. I don't agree with the "hole in the wall" description used by others. I prefer "friendly and unpretentious". Very attentive staff helped me navigate the menu and showed me how to add broth to my rice noodle bowl and mix the ingredients. I also had the samusas which were delicious. They gave me a complimentary coconut jelly dessert which was a tasty finish to my meal. great food, great service. I'll be back to explore more of the menu.

Been wanting to try this hole-in-the-wall because I've been craving Burmese food. Tea leaf salad was great--perfect blend of salty, fishy, and the popped corn and nuts added a pleasant crunch. Fried samusa was made to be eaten with the sauce they provide. The outside layer is thin and very crispy, like an egg roll. The curry inside was not too spicy, but the sauce elevates the spice level. Mohinga portion size is perfect but I enjoyed it more with extra lemon. I wish it had more of the puffy crispy sheets but regardless I still enjoyed it. Service was attentive and friendly.

Yoma is a delightful "hole in the wall" serving scrumptious Burmese food. As a newbie to the cuisine, I find myself taken with the rich flavors and satisfying textures. Some of my favorites include the tea leaf salad, fried tofu, and goat curry. My server was friendly and helpful, guiding me towards specialty dishes, and sharing a complementary dessert. Yoma's setting might not be fancy, but the experience is like enjoying a home-cooked meal - not to be missed.
