This is the best Chinese food in the Monterey Bay Area! China Garden has a wide variety of flavorful dishes, and if you know what you're doing you can order authentic Chinese dishes as well (as well as the more standard Americanized fare). My favorite part of going there is to visit with the Chinese lady who runs the place, Katy. She's always willing to help me practice my Chinese and is always very generous with me. If you're craving Chinese cuisine I don't think you will be disappointed!

When I'm craving Chinese food, I drive from Watsonville to this place! I discovered this place when I was doing my internship and I really enjoyed the food! The lady is really nice and the food is done in a timely manner. If you enjoy good Chinese food, I'd definitely recommend this place!

WARNING to those who come and eat at this place this was just about a week ago on my day off work and eat some Chinese food and after ate this place I just ordered orange chicken and rice. My stomach destroyed myself. I felt sick to my stomach puking, but the funny thing is, after I puked out the Chinese food I felt better forewarned and do not eat at this place check out a safer better place such as Chongs

General Chicken, House Chow Mein, ...Mongolian beef? So absolutely yummy. I saw a nasty review about "service." Ummm. I have never received "good service" in a four star Chinese restaurant. Mama ain't got time for that. Order your food and go.

Food was absolutely amazing! Every dish we had was full of flavor and cooked very well. The service was also quick and very friendly we even got to learn some Chinese while being there!

Great food, great service. I couldn't ask for anything else. I tip for service not quality food. The service was worth giving a tip is like they new what I needed before I needed any condiments refill. I'm a customer for sure. Thank you China Garden & staff .

Bad, Bad, Bad, Never, Never, Never would I go back to this place. The lady who served us had no respect for us. We were one of the only two tables in the restaurant and she ignored our presence for more than 15 minutes while talking ebulliently with the guests on the other table. And finally when she reluctantly came to take our orders, she questioned our knowledges on chinese food items (we are chinese, we speak and eat chinese food since our birth). When it was time for us to pack the leftovers to go, we requested a paper togo carton since we anticipated for reheating of the food in the microwave. She questioned why we wanted paper togo carton and insisted that the plastic box that she gave us was good enough. She walked away and never came back with the paper carton that we requested. She is the epitome of bad custom service. If there is a minus scale on rating, I would give her a minus 5 on service. Otherwise the food was ok, probably a 3.

Similar to the food, the restaurant "atmosphere" is sad. There was one Chinese waitress and the cook and busboy appeared of other ethnicity...none of them looked happy.Chow mein has no flavor. It had the fattest noodles I've even seen and all I could taste was dough. The little meat in it was not tenderized or marinated and there was only one piece of vegetable in the entire dish! I make much better chow mein at home...and I'm not even Asian. The general tso chicken tasted like it was store-bought frozen. It was breaded and baked, not fried tempura batter. We ordered hot/spicy sauce, but ours was barely even mild.We wanted egg rolls...but they're $9 each! NO.

Some food I ate was stale and the service was mediocre. Not polite to my kid, she quickly took my kid the bowl away and poured back his soup saying the bowl was for me,but she was polite to white people. When I was say I am ready for order. She looks unhappy and said why Chinese people say English?why not?

We came to town and wanted Chinese food. We decided to try a local business. We didn't dine in, we placed an order for pickup. The price was okay, roughly $17 per entree and the service was fast. The sesame beef didn't taste like sesame beef. It was bland and there were some questionable pieces of beef. The mongolian beef was alright, it did not have an even proportion of meat to veggies and only tasted like spicy oil.

Got to town for the first night of our four day mini vaca in Monterey and found the China Garden just down the street from our hotel. The place is pretty big with plenty of nice sized booths and tables, and set up nicely with a variety or Asian decor. The hostess/waitress was friendly and attentive and sat us quickly, gave us menus and asked for our drink order. The menu was pretty diverse with plenty to chose from, so if you like Chinese food at all you should be able to find something you'll like. Everything from the appetizer to the fortune cookie at the end was pretty good and we enjoyed our visit to China Garden
