Great shanghainese place. Get the pan fried pork buns 5/5 and the xiao long bao soup dumplings 5/5. The place is small so expect to wait a few minutes during lunch. If you are looking for dumplings and in Mountain View this is the place to try.

Worst xiaolongbao I’ve ever had… it’s sour and has a strong pork smell. Will never come back again.

1. We ordered vegetarian food multiple times but they keps serving non-vegetarian options. Had to send back food 2 times.
2. Hot and sour soup, and dragon chicken was totally inedible. We werent able to consume more than a spoon of both.
3. Panfried bao was good.
4. They didn't even have normal temperature water. They kept serving cold water or iced water despite our requests.

Disappointing experience

Bao Wow! 🥟✨
Discovered a new dumpling gem in Mountain View—Mr Bao! The menu is short and sweet, basically all about dumplings (steamed, pan-fried, boiled) and honestly, that’s all I need.

What a find, the Xiao long bao is done very well. While the skin is not super thin like Ding tai fung, it is super juicy and the skin is of the right thickness so that the soup didn't burst out easily. The taste is great as well. But the true surprise was the pork fried bun/ shen jian bao, which was fried at the lower half, and has lots of soup+pork juice mixture inside. I never had something like this and the taste was marvelous. The spring roll was extremely well done too. They don't have enough servers though so you have to be a bit patient, they are aware of and very courteous.

We came here at 630ish on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, but by 7pm there was a line out the door!

The food here is delicious. We tried the soup dumplings, cucumbers, scallion pancakes, hot and sour soup and their special pork buns. Everything tasted fresh and the portions are generous. Overall this place is great for a casual meal with friends/a group.

XLB was good. Pan fried buns was not good. Empty place at early dinner hours. My table was 1 of 2 table with customers. Waitress was just basic providing expected service BUT did not have any friendly or welcoming demeanor. Expensive for what you get. Also their recommended tip is based on your food prices AND tax. Not worth it.

We recently tried this new restaurant. The food was actually quite good — the soup dumplings in particular were excellent. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing.

Throughout our meal, four different servers came by our table. Two of them were friendly, one was at least polite though not very engaged. But one server left such a negative impression that I feel compelled to write this review.

When she first came over, she stood silently at our table with a notepad, expressionless, as if waiting for us to order. We weren’t ready yet, so my husband told her in Chinese that we needed a little more time. She gave no response. We repeated in English, and she simply walked away without a word. Later, when a soup was brought to the table, I politely asked her for a few small bowls. Instead of simply acknowledging, she snapped “I know” in a dismissive, irritated tone, as if my request was unreasonable, and walked away.

We were left stunned by her attitude. It’s hard to understand why someone with so much visible frustration would choose to work in hospitality. It completely ruined what could have been a pleasant dining experience.

Overall: great flavors, poor service. I hope management can improve training and oversight so that the chefs’ skill doesn’t go to waste.

Just left Mr. Bao Kitchen in downtown Mountain View and wow, what a treat! We tried the crab & pork soup dumplings, the chicken & cabbage soup dumplings, and the pork & veggie steamed dumplings. Every bite was juicy, flavorful, and piping hot—exactly what dumplings should be. Perfect spot for comfort food that hits the mark. Can’t wait to go back!
