Really shouldn't have started our week in Napa here, because every tasting after this was just a disappointment. The wines were phenomenal, to say the least, and our host was knowledgable, personable, and friendly. I would highly recommend the tasting here. It was a highlight of our trip.
Matthiasson is one of our favorite Napa wine producers and, without a doubt, probably the most interesting. This is not your typical valley fruit/alcohol bomb. Their wines are carefully produced to be food friendly and accessible. Think low alcohol and restrained fruit. If you add looking for great concentration of fruit and oak, go elsewhere

Matthiasson was so very special and we were so glad that not only we planned to do a tasting there, but that it was the first winery visit of our trip. So intimate, with a distinct intentional feel. Our host, Chin-Wu, greeted us immediately upon arrival and was incredible in his hospitality, his knowledge of wine, and the wine maker's philosophies.
