I am writing to formally report a situation that I consider to be extremely serious involving psychologist Erick Román Cortés Grimaldo, who currently provides services at Mountain Valley Child and Family Services, California.
During the course of the psychological treatment I received from him, several incidents and behaviors occurred that, from my perspective as a patient, I believe crossed the professional and ethical boundaries that should govern a therapeutic relationship, particularly given the inherent position of trust, authority, and vulnerability involved in such a relationship.
Due to the nature of these events, I believe there are grounds that warrant a formal investigation and that this matter should not be minimized or characterized merely as an interpersonal conflict between a professional and a patient.
I want to formally state that I intend to pursue the appropriate legal and administrative channels in Mexico City, including filing a complaint with the Mexico City Attorney General's Office (Fiscalía General de Justicia de la Ciudad de México), particularly with the appropriate authorities handling sexual offenses and gender-based violence, should the facts be determined to constitute a criminal offense. I will also consider filing the appropriate complaints with the relevant professional, regulatory, and administrative authorities.
My purpose in informing your institution directly, either before initiating these proceedings or while they are underway, is to ensure that the institution is aware of the situation and can act responsibly with regard to the safety and well-being of its patients.
I respectfully request that these allegations be reviewed and that, as a preventive measure, the institution seriously consider restricting the psychologist's contact with patients while the circumstances are being investigated, particularly with patients who may be in a vulnerable position in relation to him.
I am not asking the institution to make a determination regarding his responsibility before an investigation has taken place. I am asking that a report of this nature not be disregarded and that appropriate preventive measures be considered while the competent authorities conduct any necessary investigation.
I have documentation and evidence supporting my account and am willing to provide it to the appropriate authorities and, where appropriate, to the institution, within reasonable limits necessary to protect my rights and privacy.
I believe that an institution dedicated to mental health has a particularly important responsibility to prevent potential abuses of power and to protect individuals who seek professional care and assistance.
I respectfully request confirmation that this communication has been received and that I be informed of the internal procedure that will be followed to review and address this matter.“
