Fantastic Afghan food! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious — rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. Since each dish is made to order, there's a bit of a wait, but it’s well worth it.
Portions are generous — we ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal at home. The service was excellent too: warm, attentive, and made the experience even better.
If you're in the area and craving something authentic and satisfying, this place is a must!
You will not find better ashaak or bolani anywhere else in the bay!
The hotel itself is clean and well-maintained, and the food was good, well-prepared, and enjoyable. However, the biggest issue was the customer service. During my visit to the restaurant, the service was very poor—slow, unprofessional, and not welcoming. Additionally, the young man with a black beard at the front desk was not helpful and lacked professionalism. While the hotel and food meet high standards, the staff needs improvement to provide a better guest experience.
Food was very good. Chicken was soft and delicious
Excellent authentic Afghan food. Spacious tables, smiling hosts and good service. Checks all the boxes.
Delicious food friendly service, can’t wait to go back.Highly recommended.
I visited this restaurant with over 20 people and the food and service were all great! I’ll definitely visit again.
Went for a birthday party on a Sunday night. The staff was nice and the Afghan food was yummy. Lots of food, dancing and music. Had a very good time. The qaubli rice and the kebabs were good. Especially the chicken which was tasty and moist. Often chicken kebab is a bit dry but they cook it just right at Maiwand Village. My son loves it and likes the Chapli too. I love the pakora (sliced, battered and fried potato).

I took my mom here for her birthday because she wanted to try the Afghani trout her coworker had highly recommended. When we arrived, we found the staff busy setting up for a large party. One of them asked how he could help, and I mentioned our reservation. Instead of assisting us directly, he pointed us to a bell at the cashier stand to summon a server.
The server emerged from the kitchen and told us to choose any table. We picked one that wasn’t set, lacking the tablecloths and utensils shown in the photos, which seemed to be from banquet events. This restaurant, the only Afghan one in Newark/Fremont/Union City offering trout, appears geared more toward large parties and banquets than small groups.
While the food was phenomenal, our experience was marred by a 35-minute wait for a bottle of water, which arrived with one of our appetizers. Only one of two appetizers came out initially, so we had to eat separately—my mom watched me eat after she finished hers. The bread, although good, also came out with the appetizers. Despite having a reservation, we were hungry and thirsty for over 30 minutes, even though we were the only diners at the time.
The banquet hall is beautiful, and the staff was setting up for a private event starting at 6 p.m. There was no music, adding to the banquet-like atmosphere. The food was very reasonably priced, and the service, while friendly and professional, was notably slow. Next time, we'll likely drive to Dublin for Afghan trout and a more suitable dining experience.

We hosted an event last week for 150 people. The food was good quality albeit the staff was not trained well and the manager did not exercise any discretion and loudly commented about how much food was being consumed by guests. The buffet line was single sided instead of both sides with the result it took forever for guests to get to the buffet. They had servers stationed on beef n chicken kabab stations who were again not professional and some special guests who asked for more, were told to go back once they had finished what they had in their plate. I was disappointed at this non- professional attitude and it was a cause of embarrassment for the hosts. We were promised chapli kabab but instead got kubedah

We went there for lunch. The food was super delicious, and Hamid, the host, was super polite and helping. He speaks Farsi, English and Arabic. I definitely recommend this place and will come back to it.

My entire family got sick the next day! Filthy disgusting and overpriced. Everything was preheated. Don’t risk wellbeing of your loved ones in here, it’s not worth. There is far more better options elsewhere. I wish I could give them 0 stars, but it is what is. Shame on you dirty Maiwand Village !!
