The best place to meet or have a quiet time w/ free wifi! I was looking for a place to stay because I need to get online for a Skype meeting. I saw this coffee shop and went inside to order a drink. I ordered 1 caramel latte, the biggest one. I spotted a 2-seater table near the counter, so I chose it for it was comfy. I enjoyed my day here, I mean I could find my comfort here while having my favorite coffee.

I wanted to try this place because of it's great program for local refugees to train and work for. I ordered an iced matcha latte which was very tasty. It had a nice balance of flavors. I like that it wasn't too sweet. Would definitely come back.#LocalAdventureChallenge

1951 is probably my favorite local coffee shop. I've been here a few times and typically get to-go but recently stayed to do some work. They have a smaller front seating area and then a large area in the back with high top, low top, and couch seating perfect for getting work done or catching up with friends. We've tried the Robert Patillo pour over, lattes, cappuccino, and cold brew and have never been disappointed! I recently tried the pretzel bun they have and that was delicious too (especially for me who prefers savory over sweet). Also, 1951 is a nonprofit that promoted the well-being of the refugee community in the US so even by visiting you're supporting their organization. They even have volunteer opportunities when their baristas are training - you can be a mock customer! Highly recommend! We will be back

My Mocha is always nice and large. My usual stop when getting my car smoged across the street. Always the perfect setting.. a mix of laptop people and people talking. So you don't need to worry about disturbing people if you want to meet and catch up with friends

This review is specifically in response to the work/study vibes at this location. I've been to the Berkeley spot, and read so many rave reviews about Oakland I thought I'd check it out. I love the mission behind the business, but ultimately had to leave for the library. It was very crowded at 2:45 in the afternoon, the chairs were uncomfortable, and the WiFi very slow. My matcha latte was just okay.

Really nice spot with unique offerings like Iranian rose lemonade, and a great mission. Good place to work, too- comfortable, quiet, strong wifi, some outlets. I'll be back!

They roast their own beans - delicious. The large murel reflects the welcome to freedom mission of this nonprofit.

Simple menu and setup. Seating area in the back has the usual stools . counter and tabkes plus a couple of basic couches. Gender free washroom. Tea . coffee. Simple bakery items. No loud music.

A cafe that serves non-caffeinated beverages that are still on par with perfection is only part of the reason to support this indie, helping to support a non-profit that enriched our community is a big part.

A little history: 1951 Coffee Company, founded in 2015, is a non-profit specialty coffee organization that promotes the well-being of the refugee community in the United States by providing job training and employment to refugees, asylees, and special immigrant visa holders while educating the surrounding community about refugee life and issues. Read the message on the wall and thought, "How can you not support this cafe and their mission!" Now the cafe: The space is super clean. I think it's the cleanest cafe I've ever been in! And there is ample room, if you're looking for a space to do homework or remotely. It's not overly crowded like Starbucks or Peets. Definitely, will suggest this place for our next staff meeting. The staff behind the counter is super friendly. They greet you with a large smile. And are very patient when your indecisive. Our order came fairly quickly after paying! Mind you, we went here after lunch. So, I'm not sure what the crowds look like in the morning rush... The pastries! Now that was amazing! We had a Mochi chocolate muffin... and it was SO good! They have a Mochi waffle which we'll have to try next time. And they have chai pudding which I'll have to try next time. The DRINKS! The espresso is wrong! I'm definitely awake now! I got an iced mocha. It was topped with a lot of cow milk. I should've gotten the oat milk substitution since my stomach has been sensitive to cow's milk. But, that didn't stop me from enjoying the drink. My sis got a dirty chai. She didn't like it as much. She felt like it was watered down. But, I think it's because the chai has a minty taste that makes it more refreshing. You definitely can smell the chai. And the first taste your hit with is the tingling espresso. But, it had a minty aftertaste that clears your palette. If that makes sense...

1951 is a solid coffee shop with good beans and skilled baristas. The place is cozy and clean with a sunny rear deck. The thing is, this is a neighborhood with brighter more welcoming Reveille just up Claremont, Philz half a block away, Peet's at Ashby and humanity's coffee crossroads at Cole Coffee so close!! 1951 is good, but unfortunately not as memorable or noteworthy as other places nearby -- more like the passing of the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms than like Bobby Thompson's Shot Heard Round The World (both of which occurred in 1951). (By the way, they should add Shot Heard round the World to the menu!)

Cute space and welcoming baristas, I couldn't help but drop in and enjoy the well-loved community based coffee shop. 1951 coffee sure knows how to brew darn good coffee and lattes. Plus, their pastries are out of this world! They offer Third Culture Bakery goods that can keep your sugar high going if you need any work or homework done. I highly recommend this place as they help build a better community and refugees who are in need of place of work and support system. Things like this makes me appreciate local businesses who offer community service and projects. I'm glad I had the chance to check this place out! Would I come back? YES!

I've only been here twice, but really like the vibe. I'm highly selective when it comes to tea, and I like their Jasmine Green. Their muffins are great as well. I've only had positive interactions with the staff. It's just a nice, quiet place to chat or get some work done.
