We've been coming here since they opened and always love it. Yesterday we had lunch and the food was delicious! The best part though was our server, Tess. She was so kind and accommodating and patient. She explained the different dishes and was so kind to answer our questions . We are native Oaklanders so have been everywhere and Tess was the best server we've ever encountered ! GLK is lucky to have her. We'll be back for sure. Compliments to the Chef , too ! Wonderful and the man at the entrance was also very kind and humorous.

ps. Can't say any of this about the Dimond location . Too bad

Brother-in-law suggested the Grand Lake Kitchen/Lake Merritt for an early lunch, because of one of their dishes he likes. We both had the Chlaquiles Verde with poached eggs, and I found it both flavorful and filling. We sat outside under the awning, and enjoyed watching people and traffic pass by. Service was friendly, though a little slow with drink and refills. There were several items on the menu that I would like to try, and we found the brunch items to reasonably priced. We found parking, for my full size truck, on the Lake Merritt side of the street on a late morning in early September. I look forward to a return visit.

Very cute, but I don't recommend it on a weekend. They're so busy that they make mistakes. First, it took 35min to get our food, and then another 10min to get utensils because they forgot to set our table. Second, my dish was missing a major ingredient. (I had not made any alterations, I'd ordered straight off the menu.) Third, my son's hamburger came with multiple long strands of hair in the food. The staff was working hard but naturally at that level of overwhelm, people make mistakes. I would only return here at off peak hours.

Highly recommend the polenta. My boyfriend got it and it was the most home-y comfort food.

Thank goodness the service was kind cause the food was blah. We ordered some sandwiches — and they were basic. the potato wedges tasted previously frozen and the Brussels sprouts were overly flavored. Brunch looks like the best time to go! but would not recommend for lunch….

Four of us visited on an August Saturday morning, around 9 am , and the place was 1/3 full by then. Quick response when we arrived and our reservation was honored immediately. Sat outside on the covered sidewalk patio. There is steady but not intrusive traffic as the restaurant is just across from Lake Merritt Park’s North(?) end.
The menu has some unusual options as well as standard breakfast choices.
I didn’t read the SAVORY French Toast details so was surprised when my order arrived and it wasn’t the egg-custards style I anticipated!
My error, as my companions cleaned their plates and mine! Another friend had the polenta offering that was delicious and flavorful, unlike polenta I was accustomed to. Not a cheap meal but great location, service and a nice place overall.

We brought friends from out of town and it was the perfect place for people with differing diets and tastes. We had a great brunch and our server was fantastic.
