Came for dinner at 5:10pm and it said they close at 7pm. Door was open but the servers turned me away. Didn’t explain why they were open but weren’t taking customers. They turned other people away too. I asked if I could get take out. They discussed it between the staff for a bit and then told me “No”. What a waste of time and now had to make new plans. Just disrespectful to your customers to randomly close during dinner.

Place is often closed without notice, and their posted hours are rarely accurate. While the food and service can be excellent, it’s frustrating when the Google listing and phone message both show wrong hours. Until they keep their information updated, I can’t recommend this restaurant.

Came on a Friday at around 2pm & they were closed, despite saying they're open everyone online. This spot on 8th St in Oakland seems to be unreliably open ever since Matty's concept was closed. Bummer
Being a bbq snob from Kansas City, I’m always skeptical of trying new bbq restaurants lol. However, I was excited to support a black-owned bbq restaurant. My boyfriend and I actually met the owner in the parking lot and he was very welcoming and friendly.
We got there when they first opened and they seemed to be short on waitstaff that day because one of the cooks informed us that it was his first day working on the floor as a waiter. He was very friendly and kind. However, he informed us that they didn’t have chicken, burnt ends, cornbread and one other side, so that was a bit disappointing. It took a little while to get our food. But, the meat was very tender and flavorful. I would come back again and hopeful that they would have everything on the menu in stock.

[Mandela Pkwy location] I tried this spot earlier this year and the barbecue was superb, my entire order was delicious. From the brisket to the potato salad to the Mac & Cheese to everything I had. And the ambience and service was just right! This fire is the test in your testimony. You will rebuild, and be stronger than you’ve ever been. Stay strong & lifted!
