The food was top tier. I had the Ootoro Combo and the Rose Roll. The roll was a little on the frigid side, but the toro was very fine and came with a few flavor modifiers like shiso, truffle, and a wasabi sauce. The food was presented very quickly and looked great. So that's the good, and it was good. Now the bad: the service. Not only we're the servers absent upon my entrance, but they just gaped at me once I found them. The chefs behind the counter at the very least greeted me, but the servers offered nary a syllable. A chef told me that the counter was closed, which was strange to say the least, so I was escorted by a mute server to a patio area. I walked out and they just sort of started talking to one another. I asked if I should just sit anywhere and they generally gestured toward the tables. The rest of the meal was like this, though they did all about the food at one point; I had no problem with the food. And finally, the ugly: the patio smell. The patio smells of a toilet. That's unacceptable. More then the savor of the well-marbled tuna, that smell sticks with me... A disappointing first visit.

Really bad service, literally the first customer of the day and they gave me my beer almost after I finished my food. They totally forgot about my sushi rolls and still tried to charge me for the rolls.

The atmosphere of this place is really cool, especially the patio. The inside is meh. The service was good in the sense that food came out quickly and the server was friendly, but they never asked how anything tasted. The food was BAD! Like old fishy taste even in the fried rolls. The baked scallop roll had dry previously frozen scallops and a really fishy flavor. The ramen broth was good, the pork that came in the ramen felt like they tried to rehydrate a shoe sole. I will never return. Even if this place was cheap it would not be worth it. Let’s hope something better replaces this place soon.

One my go-to sushi spots in Oakland. A little out of the way and in between Uptown and Piedmont this place is worth going to. My favorite dish is the bluefin tuna roll with a dab of truffle sauce!

Love the patio ambiance and murals. The sashimi salad was excellent with good balance of spicy sweet sour taste from the apple strips. Also their rice is GOOD. Will go back to try more rolls.
