The owners replied, they always pray for their customers after delivering their food. Sounds too fishy for sushi, if you get my drift:)Yesterday, for the first time I placed order with this restaurant, ordered their Matsuyama Special roll, and salmon roll. 10 minutes after i ate it, i felt sick, and threw up all I had, a few pieces of each roll. Still feel nauseated, day after. They obviously use rotten fish. Still trying to get refund from Door Dash. Will never order from Matsuyama again, they serve poison.

This place is definitely my favorite places to go get sushi. I've been ordering here several times and I try to sample different rolls each time and so far I haven't had a missed yet. The fish is fresh, each roll tastes unique and isn't overly drenched in sauce. Highly recommend this sushi place.

I've ordered delivery from Matsuyama a couple of times since they're a ghost kitchen/to go only stall and found the food to be inconsistent. The first time I was super impressed, especially after salivating over the photos of the chirashi bowl that others posted. But it looks like Matsuyama's cut back on the fish since they first opened because my chirashi did not look like the ones they posted in May 2022. There's notably less fish and less variety, which was a let-down since I was expecting what I saw in their own advertised photo.The biggest culprit for my review was the sushi rice. The first time I ordered here, no problem. Delicious, fluffy white rice seasoned with a balanced mix of sweet and sour vinegar. The next two times, I had bits of hard, undercooked rice grains scattered throughout my bowl that turned every bite into an unpleasant game of "will I bite into a rock this time" that really ruined the meal. The rice was also over-seasoned these times and quickly overwhelmed the fish, which, by the way, was also inconsistent. Sometimes the fish was buttery smooth and decadent as expected and sometimes the fish fell apart in a bad way, as if it had been frozen and defrosted too quickly.As much as I support the concept of Matsuyama, a delivery and take-out only kitchen in North Oakland's new-ish food hall, I'm tired of gambling on whether the food I'm going to get will be like that first time (delicious, would get again) or like the subsequent two times (crunchy rice, grainy fish).

Ordered from here from doordash. It wasn't terrible but not really the best. I was super disappointed that there was no Wasabi with the sushi. What kind of place doesn't include that with your sushi order?

The service is incredibly, and I mean *incredibly* slow. I ordered from them when their delivery estimate is 20-35 min and instead got my order pushed back again and again until an hour and a half later I relented and cancelled. I would highly discourage ordering from these folks if you want your food in a reasonable amount of time.

Bummed they are temporarily closed, but info here on Yelp shows they are "open until 9pm" today. Best of luck and hope the restaurant is able to open back up. Note, this is a warehouse kitchen type setup where you can order on a screen and pick up. Setup for Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.

That may have been the best unagi nigiri I've had. Highly recommend their baked dragon roll. Crunchy but still very tender...maybe it's from the crab salad. The sauce over this roll is amazing. Will be back to try more.

Never have been to the actual establishment but I order delivery from here a lot more often, there are tons of sushi places near my house on solano in north Berkeley but again I find myself always ordering from here the food is delicious and so fresh!

I’m not sure if the sushi chef is out sick or someone was learning sushi but I’m confused and disappointed this evening. The avocado roll was poorly made (uneven rice, loosely rolled & uneven cuts). No biggie. However, the vegetable tempura rolls - ngl my mouth did gape open when I opened the container.First thing I noticed is what is supposed to be avocado slices across the top of the roll was a teeny tiny amount of MASHED avocado, including finger press points. The roll was missing carrot and sweet potato, the bottom 1/3 of the roll was soaked in a sauce I’d never gotten before and 2 mysterious blobs of green onion smushed into 2 spots. It didn’t at all taste like the roll should, and has the last two prior times I’ve ordered it, surely due to missing carrot, missing sweet potato, minuscule avocado and soggy from sauce. Also, the surprise green onion and sauce is not okay.If I had received these rolls this way my first order I’d never have ordered from here again. I worked in a Japanese sushi bar for years and I’m really stunned someone felt it was okay to send this out. The California rolls were fine and look like they were definitely made by someone else. It was absolutely unacceptable to send out the veg tempura rolls the way they did.

Ordered through DoorDash and it’s the best sushi I’ve had in the bay - delivery or not. Super fresh, the tempura is crunchy and the albacore bbq is amazing.

This sushi was a-MA-zing. I ordered through door dash and everything was very fresh, including the shrimp tempura. Shrimp tempura can be tricky on doordash - it gets soggy, not the case here! I also ordered the Berkeley roll which had great flavor. I haven't seen fresh wasabi in a long time - nice touch! And the ginger was super fresh too, I wouldn't be surprised if they made it themselves. I will definitely order again!
