Sean Paul and the team are incredible. This is without a doubt the best restaurant in Oakland. Every dish was 11/10. Perfect service aside - the balance of each dish was outstanding- get the tempura Cesar- the wagyu bo Ssam- the hand roll dish!!!!! Literally everything was delicious- will be going back and bringing each and every one of our friends. Michelin star ⭐️ 100% without a doubt.

Really fun and great addition to Oakland’s dining scene! The service was great and appreciated a lot of the creative contemporary dishes. Service was really sweet, would go back to try some of their other dishes

Tasty spot with great flavors! We got handrolls, trout, hwe dup bap, oxtail jjigae, gai lan, and chocolate cake which was kind of the best chocolate cake I've had in a while. The handrolls and hwe dup bap were my favorite! I was glad to try everything but I would prob get the wagyu sam instead of the oxtail next time. Can't wait to be back.

Neat (mostly)Korean-inspired dishes that just taste good. The tartare onigiri was 🔥 in particular
One of the best new restaurants I've tried in a while.
We particularly loved the Baechu Salad, Maitake Tempura, Smoked Hiramasa, Halibut Crudo, Ganjang Fried Chicken, Omelette, and Hwe Dup Bap which I would order again.
The crispy potato, oxtail jjigae, and kalbi ssam were good too and worth a try.
I'm looking forward to trying more from the menu.

Loved it! I heard about Oken through the OKs deli lore. Great vibes
Tried the ganjang fried chicken, grilled gai lan, Kalbi, Tsukune dumpling noodle soup, maitake tempura, tomato kimchi somen (some dishes not photographed or captured post-serve). The noodle soups were easy to share amongst 2 ppl.
Each dish was amazing and I'd highly recommend the grilled Gai lan, maitake tempura, and tomato kimchi somen.
The potato salad that comes with the fried chicken is just as amazing as OKs deli's!

I've been here three times now and each time has been a great experience. The food is outstanding, we've tried almost every dish on the menu and they're all phenomenal. Some of my favorites are the baechu salad, the heirloom tomato salad, the house somen (with tomato and kimchi broth) and the oxtail jjigae. Everything is inventive but somewhat familiar and everything tastes really fresh. The restaurant is very comfortable and cool with great lights and I love all of the pottery and serving dishes. The drinks and wine list are great, some mocktail options would be a nice addition but they have great non-alcoholic options and even an NA wine. We have never managed to save room for dessert but I look forward to trying those soon.
The staff is very attentive and the pacing of the meal is always thoughtful and effective. Definitely a busy spot so make a reservation ahead of time and you may end up sharing a big table with others but it all works out.
Really glad this spot is in the neighborhood and I look forward to returning often.

I've had the pleasure of dining at Oken twice now, and both experiences were excellent. The host and servers were very welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable. You really feel like you're taken care of here. All of the food is delicious and beautifully presented. I especially loved both the baechu and tomato salads, maitake tempura, crispy potato, and ganjang fried chicken. And whatever you do, you must save room for the chocolate cake! Looking forward to returning and trying the gochujang glazed trout and oxtail jjigae.

Mostly Korean but also Japanese, this fusion restaurant is a blast. Go with four people the first time so you can have the widest variety of dishes. Dishes we had. All exceptional.
* Baechu Salad (Napa Cabbage Salad)
* Maitake Tempura
* Tsukune Dumpling Noodle Soup
* Kalbi Ssam (Marinated Short Rib)
* Sichuan Popcorn Chicken.

This restaurant is kickass. Big fan of OK's Deli so when I was pretty excited when I heard he was opening a dinner restaurant. Sort of a fancy Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant, you eat family style, we had 7 dishes for 4 people, (1 starter, 4 appetizers, 2 entrees) and 2 desserts. That was the right amount of food. Everything was amazing, super high quality, every little piece of it. Kalbi short ribs, Chicken noodle soup, Fried Chicken app, a beef tartare Onigiri, the salad, all crazy good. Service similarly super attentive, friendly. This place is going to be impossible to get into very soon, mark my words.

What a great new local restaurant. We loved the maitake tempura with the dipping sauce. The kalbi short rib ssam with various vegetable wraps and homemade dipping sauce was delicious. Ended with peaches and cream. Great vibes, great service. Support your small local businesses. It's a gem!!
