My friend and I were looking for a Black-owned spot in Oakland and we stumbled upon Soul Slice. After looking through the menu before eating here, I was nervous to try the different combinations of pizzas they had. A lot of the soul food staples on pizza, really had me shook and nervous to try. To my surprise though, the pizza was good. I was also nervous to see how a cornbread crust would be for pizza (REALLY GOOD). My friend and I ordered the Cajun Shrimp pizza. I thought it was a good pizza to ease in with. Our server also helped us to make the final decision because we were torn between the Hot Link Pizza and Cajun Shrimp Pizza. I'm glad we went with the Cajun Shrimp pizza cause it was really good. We ordered one whole pizza and shared it between the 2 of us. It was filling and enough for both of us. The pizza was more of a flatbread. The crust was really nice and had a crunch to it. It also had some sweetness to it which I liked. The toppings and the pizza sauce was great. Everything was well seasoned and tasted good. The chef accidentally put cheese on our pizza which was not a big deal. It didn't add or take away anything from the pizza but it definitely added more color and texture. Overall the pizza was good. Our server was really nice and very attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice. They played soul music the entire evening and it was overall an excellent vibe. I would come back here to try another pizza.

The ambiance, employee friendliness, creativity, and cocktails get the stars. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the food was far too bland. :(

I love the soul food here. It's a great space, the bar, the fried oysters, the chicken nuggets, cocktails and fried okra. It's very reasonably priced and Karter, is a kind 'soul'. One of the few black-owned soul food restaurants in the Bay area. Worth the trip.

Best soul food in Oakland, and I'm tempted to say best soul food anywhere in California! The Black-Eyed Peas pizza with the biscuit crust was amazing - every ingredient so fresh and delicious, and combined into an incredibly satisfying combo. I could have eaten 50 more bowls of the fried okra and charred collard greens. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, too. Highly recommend.

This was a new experience for sure. I was expecting cheese because uts a pizza. It had nice cheese but I'm not complaining it was delicious. We tried their Cajun seafood pizza. Huge shrimps that were seasoned to perfection, fried sausage, fresh tomatoes,, and a sauce that's like marinara but way better. It was spicy for me but managble. I have definitely found a new place to dine at and would recommend it to anyone just to try it out. We took a cance and I'm satisfied.

I was looking for a Black owned restaurant that was had options outside of traditional soul food/bbq and this was one of the first results. If you're coming from outside of Oakland, it's in the part of Oakland that's close to Berkeley and Emeryville. I came on 12/30 at 5 pm and there was no wait. They require proof of COVID-19 vaccination and ID verification. The restaurant is pretty spacious and the artwork on the wall is a great touch. The playlist is also on point - very much Soul Train-esque and goes with the theme of the restaurant. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive (can't remember their name but they had short curly hair). We were deciding between the Cajun Shrimp vs Hot Link Pizzas. After talking to the server, we went with the Cajun shrimp pizza. It was bomb. The pizza is more flatbread style. The biscuit crust has a little bit of sweetness and is pretty crumbly so at times it can be hard to eat with a fork and knife. Everything was seasoned wonderfully. The pickled peppers also gave it a nice kick. I do wish it had a little more green onion but I'm also an onion fiend. Our pizza accidentally came with cheese on it which we didn't mind. It didn't add much flavor to the pizza but added a layer of texture. I think it's plenty for 2 people because I was very full afterwards. There's ample street parking directly adjacent to the restaurant and in the nearby neighborhoods. Also there is a happy hour on Wednesdays from 5-7 pm.

So grateful to be sharing this review. After weeks of patiently waiting to give Soul Slice a try I finally made my way. And back to back two weeks in a row. My girl friends & I met for dinner here on Friday night 8:30pm a week before the holidays. We assumed a crowd so made a reservation for 6. Def, wasn't needed. There was only one other party dining. The atmosphere is chill and inviting. Beautiful wall mural of the menu items and the musical selection was on point. Not many tables in dining room but I heard the patio offers more seating. The food though, man everything I've tasted EXCEEDED my expectations. I've blessed my palate w/ alot since we went family style... Smashed potato & fried okra (FAVE), roasted Broccoli, soul salad (fried black eyed peas are a must), Veggie okra pizza & Veggie fried jackfruit w/ black eyed pea pizza, catfish croquet (best I ever had like Drake said), and Mac & cheese. The other ladies enjoyed the fried chicken pizza. The biscuit crust takes things to the next level. Cocktails are unique and delicious just like their menu but I always opt for Rose. Our same group + 2 returned a week later for their Kwanzaa Umoja dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves & although it was a prefixed menu for $25 (win!) the quality, flavors, and portions were on point. Skylar the server is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. All the reasons I will be returning.

Pizza 1: DIY - Chicken, Bacon, Onion with Mac Sauce, 2 cheeses and roasted garlic. Pizza 2: Vegan Hot Link Pizza. Sides: Black eyed peas, Broccoli , Cheesy grits, Fried okra Dessert: Peach cobbler let's start by saying the broccoli was INSANELY DELICIOUS! that was our favorite highlight of the meal. we came for the biscuit crust pizza and were blown away by the broccoli cooked with an OPEN FLAME! whoa! we'll be back for it. anyway, the pizzas were so good. i enjoyed the biscuit crust, it was very well put together but still had a pizza crust essence. the vegan links tasted like the real thing and added an amazing smokiness to the pizza. the chicken on the DIY pizza was delicious! the flavors were on point and we're so grateful for this experience! many blessings on this blossoming business

Amazing food; very filling, you will definitely be eatin' your greens, and experience a cocktail! The four of us went to celebrate my buddy's birthday and had a blast. We ordered about 7 different sides for the table. Smashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, collard greens, and cornmeal fried chicken nuggets to name a few. I had a hearty slice of the Cornmeal Fried Chicken pizza with barbecue sauce and it was delicious. Sorry, no pictures because I was busy eating. Next time I'm getting the Cheddar and Onion pizza and a side of baked Mac and cheese. I'm following them on the Instagram now :) Thank you for the great food and great service!

Hot tip: come check this place out before it gets too popular. I came here for the first time, a bit skeptical about the idea of combining soul food in pizza form on a biscuit crust. I was immediately proven wrong. This spot has everything you want in a hot and new eatery: - Chill ambiance with fresh art on the walls and good music - Exciting, unique, and surprisingly tasty creations at a reasonable price (e.g. fried okra that Louisiana natives dream of) - Excellent and kind service Peep the pictures for some of what we tried. Definitely worth writing home about and bringing family and friends. P.S. As of December 14, 2021, it is open late (until 11:00 PM)

Yo what. Legit had not idea what to expect from a soul food / pizza mash up but holy sh*t. Don't sleep, this is wild. I've been here four times and have tried probably 3/4 of the menu and have been blown away every time. Good vibes the whole time too, do support this. Seriously.

Everything I've had on the menu has been absolutely stellar. I happily make the drive from Vallejo to here and will continue to. The Spanish Harlem and The Henny Margarita pair with everything too. Definitely check this place out.

Looove the innovations on soul food at Karter's soulful loungy oakland restaurant. Very high ceilings, spacious and a cultural gem. The fried oysters, cornmeal chicken nuggets and zest broccoli were my favorite. The cocktails are sophisticated and yummy. They are a lean working team of 3, so come in with some patience. I'm also thrilled to see a black-owned business helping to revive the restaurant industry.

Walking into Soul Slice, you feel at home. As someone who is often in TX and exposed to southern food, don't expect to get a familiar taste of home. What you can taste is a modern twist on southern farm to table with splashes of Cajun spice. What I can appreciate is the freshness, the service, and the cocktails (they are amazing & too easy to drink!) I'm not sure how I feel about the biscuit dough as crust as I am a true pizza lover; it's a bit out of the box for me, but definitely worth the try. Outside of the pizza, all of the "Other Stuff" was great!!! My favorite was the cauliflower, fried Okra, Cornbread (super super yummy), and the fried chicken yummies. Karter, the owner, what a beautiful soul. I'm happy to see a black-owned business come and change the cuisine scenery in the Bay as we're used to overpriced mediocre food. Excited to see where this place goes & bring some culture back into the gentrified tech bs of the bay.

Great food, gorgeous atmosphere, and the people there are the friendliest. Many of their items are vegan optional or just straight vegan.
