Atrocious customer service -- or a complete lack of any customer service, rather. Want to wait for your food for over an hour only to find out most of your order was canceled as they "ran out" -- without any prior notification whatsoever? Call to ask a question about it only to find out that one number is out of service, and the other rings till they hang up? This is how this place handles their business regularly and repeatedly. If it was possible to give a -2 stars for service; they'd deserve it.Some of the food is actually not bad, though the rest is mediocre at best, but the disregard for the customer is so blatant that it's amazing they stayed in business even this long. Do yourself a favor and order from some tasty place that is reputable and cares instead of Spicy Tongue.

Being a "ghost kitchen" shouldn't be an excuse to treat customers like garbage. Complete disregard for you and your order now seems normal for these people. Some of the food is decent and they are local, which is why I patronized this place many times before finally giving up. When they just opened they were ok but half a year or so later it all started going down the drain. Order times doubled, they'd send a notification your food was ready, you'd go and have to wait another 25-30 minutes. You'd be picking your order up, hungry and having waited, only to find out your order was incomplete -- like 1 out of 3 dishes; no advance notice of any kind. They'd cancel your order without any explanations, often after you've been waiting for a while. Try to call them -- line not in service or ring until they hang up (they have multiple numbers listed between different websites/ordering systems). Etc. etc. etc. As someone who owned a small business for many years, I know both how hard it is to earn your customers loyalty and how important it is to keep your service on a level. Done with this place for good and good riddance when they finally fold. Hopefully the whole "ghost kitchen" model dies, too, because it helps enable this attitude.

They didn’t update their hour and had Uber drivers waiting hella long just for this place to be closed, drivers be aware this place closes early and check screen as they had like 10 pending orders. Smh, bet their food is trash

Far too expensive with delivery. Even expensive to go pick up by yourself but the food is good and they have a couple good vegetarian options, although not nearly

DO NOT EVER ORDER! I REPEAT DO NOT EVER ORDER! First of all, I ordered the boiling beef with house spicy broth which includes rice and house soup. I just dont understand, there were literally no beef? Except cabbage and no rice too. Never gonna order again. Yes, I did read all other reviews and was convinced before I order but I WAS WRONG! DO NOT ORDER!!!!!

Do walk away from this terrible restaurant. Food is terrible. I ordered a spicy fish with fermented cabbage which is a famous and easy Chinese food. I cried when I got it for it's Mid Autumn festival night, I want to treat myself with home food. Rice is still good. The fish fillet has a mud taste, can not eat at all.

I'm aware it's a ghost kitchen. I wanted some late Sichuan food, but Chengdu Style was closed so I was willing to settle with food delivered from a ghost kitchen and expect there's going to be at least 10+ minutes more than the original estimate delivery.Anyways, the food. I got the black fungus with chili sauce, boiling beef with house spicy broth, and shrimp fried rice. The shrimp fried rice seemed as if the rice was thrown into a bowl, drenched with soy sauce, and called it a day. It was tasty, so I will likely order again. The black fungus mushrooms smelled slightly rancid, and eating a bite tasted like they used all vinegar in the chili sauce.... I'm not sure if there was any chili sauceThe boiling beef with house spicy broth was exactly what I was looking for, with the perfect amount of numbing oil and sichuan peppercorn. Aside from the random cuts of cucumber, I actually really enjoyed this dish.So while I don't know if I would order from "them" in the day time when places like Chengdu Style or Mama Ji's are open, this would definitely be a good late night delivery spot for me.Edit: I feel like I understated the shrimp fried rice. It's really good.

What is this place? I placed a preorder on Doordash, the order was for 11:20 and it was acknowledged by the restaurant at 10:45 only to be cancelled at 12:04. Never got my food.

First the plusses: the ingredients were fresh and the eggplant with string beans seemed like a healthy choice. However, it's pretty hard to screw up Kung Pao chicken. Any corner Chinese restaurant can usually assemble a passable version, and here in Oakland there are great endemic Chinese restaurants that can make a great version. The order I got from Spicy Tongue couldn't have been farther from anything I've ever had before - I don't think it contained any genuine Chinese spices or flavors. It tasted more like what you can imagine eating in a high school cafeteria: bland and containing many times more bell peppers and onions than chicken. It should be called Kung Pao Cheap Veggies on the menu. Oakland deserves better than the Spicy Tongue and I'll patronize the restaurants that serve better food.

Got the take out kung pao chicken. Absolutely disgusting. I’ve never thrown away an entire takeout dish before until then.

Yikes. Wished I looked up Yelp reviews before ordering from here. I was really looking forward to some mouth-numbling szechuan food but was severely disappointed. The sweet and sour chicken looks nothing like the pictures on the menu - it was bright red, a major red flag. The boneless spicy fried chicken was not even spicy. And chicken was old. Never ordering from here again.

"Spicy Tongue" is a ghost kitchen at the Adeline Food Hall that offers a variety of spicy Sichuan foods and other non-spicy dishes. As a ghost kitchen, it's menu items are only available for delivery or pickup only. This menu includes: ( lunch and regular)- appetizers- Special Spicy dishes- seafood, chicken, pork, beef, veggie- rice and noodles- soups- drinksSo, on a rainy Sunday, I ordered for delivery:- Chicken Chow Mein- Shredded Chicken w/ Green Onion Pepper Sauce- Shanghai Style Braised Pork Belly - Hot & Sour Soup (Veggie)Now, when I got my food, I was actually pleasantly surprised that the two entrees I ordered were not very spicy. In fact, they reminded me of food I had in a Taiwanese restaurant. The Shredded Chicken w/ a Pepper Sauce wasn't spicy at all. It actually had an aromatic herb flavor with a slight sweetness. The Braised Pork Belly was in a rich and savory sauce. The pork belly was tender and fatty, and easy to eat. But not spicy at all. I wasn't really disappointed, as I didn't really want super spicy mouth numbing food. The Chicken Chow Mein was typical chow mein. It wasn't spicy, just chow mein. The (small) Veggie Hot 'n Sour Soup was mainly soup with some veggies and some tofu. I'm giving this place 4-stars because of the care and preparation used in cooking the entrees. I really liked the braised pork belly. The Shredded Chicken was just OK, but I wouldn't order it again. With their extensive menu, you'll probably find something you like from the "Spicy Tongue," even if it's mouth numbing spicy HOT!
