Having gone to many Izakaya in my life, I have always been disappointed by the fact that they make you take your shoes off and sit on the floor, eating off a table that is barely waist-high. The food is usually very fried and the oils they use upset my tummy. Also the nomi-hodai drinks are almost always heavily diluted. Full Moon in OJAI, CA is the best Izakaya I have been to that provides TRADITIONAL JAPANESE FARE in an unassuming environment. Prices are reasonable, THEY HAVE UNI, MY FAVORITE, and a decent list of alcoholic beverages. WILL COME BACK AGAIN!

This was very expensive and didn’t feel worth the price compared to the many great restaurants nearby that offer more for less. The seating is also quite uncomfortable, and parking was a major issue. If there is parking available, we weren’t able to find it.

Open and operational. A gem we always visit when in Ojai. Yakitori is everywhere in Japan but a treat in California!

Unforgettable and unique Japanese food. We love this place. Sometimes the service is a bit snooty and too cool for school, but the relaxed atmosphere makes up for it. Be prepared to sit elbow to elbow with others in a very crammed place… and wait in line for ages since they don’t take reservations

Really nice outdoor patio. That’s where we are. We got there right when it opened so it was really easy to get a table. There’s not that many places in Ojai that my husband and I actually love, but this is one of them.
I’m vegetarian and my husband is not and we both had tons of options. The menu is pretty unique and there’s some realllllyyyy nice dishes.

Expect to wait but you can order drinks and delicious skewers in the meantime.
Once we got our table, we ordered toro nigiri, the chef sushi set, onigiri, fried chicken, and the tempura corn. Everything was fresh and delicious. Worth the wait for sure. Great service too.

Pretty much food is good owner is very nice, but a very long wait and a little bit over price, there’s a bunch of space in the front but not sure if it’s part of the restaurant, I know though that ojai people is calm and doesn’t mind time waiting, we waited for over an hour and have to seat very close to other people, the waiting area also is so close to the people eating I think it’s better if it’s a little separated, people waiting looking at you while your eating a little awkward just a honest review. Still a good experience

Incredible authentic Japanese food in the heart of Ojai! We loved the GOMA KAMPACHI, the duck skewers and, by all means, get the corn tempura. Never had anything like it. Delicious! We will be back soon!

Incredible surprise. Wonderful, the best Izakaya I've ever been to and I've been to many in New York and LA. GO.

Food was amazing! Small seating area and seven seats at the sushi bar but was so worth it! Seems like one gentleman was working when we came in however he handled the large rush of people very well!

Just a note to say they are no longer serving their full menu at lunch - hand rolls only. The full menu is offered for dinner after 5pm.
