Absolute garbage!!!! This Safeway is one of the worst grocery stores I have ever been in. And it's not the employees. The staff have been quite nice. Its the store, this Safeway needs competition bad!!! How has a Sprouts, or Trader Joes, or Whole Foods not seen the golden opportunity here in Orinda!!!! W are one of the wealthiest communities in the entire Bay area, and yet we only have ONE garbage store to shop in.

Most Safeway's are down right depressing. Only shop there out of total desperation. The Orinda one use to be tolerable because of the high quality employees . I think covid is the reason for the bottom of the barrel people that now work there. Down right unprofessional.

Thank you safeway for always being there. Thank you employee for working during Covid. I appreciate you!!

I am very disappointed that about 25% of the employees at Orinda Safeway wear their masks BELOW their noses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MANAGERS need to enforce compliance of wearing masks correctly! At Treader Joe's in Lafayette 100% of employees wear masks correctly BECAUSE THEIR MANAGERS MAKES SURE, INSTEAD OF TURNING A BLIND EYE and allowing their staff to keep masks below noses!

One line for multiple checkers is the slowest, most inefficient strategy I have ever seen in ANY grocery store, in ANY city - this must change.

This Safeway truly needs an update. Walking into the store is always like I'm stepping into a night club. Are we saving on energy, being cost efficient or trying to create a romantic mood when buying food? Cmon! This is Orinda! Corporate really needs to invest in their stores and watch some HGTV. The staff here for the majority is awesome and very friendly. Corporate please make an investment and update this store. Maybe a two story Safeway? Please?

Been coming here for 15 years. I now go to self service lane to avoid crazy characters working checkout. Got called a "dick" today by cashier after I was overcharged and asked about it.

Always long lines as always understaffed. Poor selection, today 12 in line to check out as only 1 open checker. Already been in line 20 minutes with cold and frozen (was frozen) goodFood typically older shelf life. Horrible experience any and every day. Already try to go elsewhere as much as possible.

This place is a bummer. Just went to pick up a few things for lunches this week at work, and as it was around 9 in the evening the store was mostly empty. I go to checkout and there are three people at the checkout counter: the man running the register, the man bagging groceries, and another man who has been checked out already but is talking to the other two about how the layout of the store should be improved. They appear to know each other. I waited there for awhile with no acknowledgement. Wordlessly, as they all talked, the cashier started ringing up my items. Still no one said a word to me, their conversation continued, the other customer kept saying "she probably wants to checkout" but would then laugh and remain standing in front of the register so that I could not possibly checkout. Eventually (like AWHILE later) he moved away from the register, but they still continued their conversation as I stood with my card in the reader just waiting for the cashier to finish the transaction. I was completely invisible to them and, to be honest, I couldn't help but feel these guys were being misogynistic...why are you completely ignoring the customer you're supposed to be checking out?? The cashier never even once looked at me or acknowledged me verbally. He handed me the receipt while looking in another direction, I bagged my own things up (none of the three men acknowledged my existence beyond the one saying "she probably wants to check out" a handful of times), and I left without a word from anyone. I get home to find I was charged a bag fee even though I'd brought my own. Couldn't even be bothered to ring me up properly. Not worth driving back to fix the price, but along with my treatment I figured it was worth a Yelp review. Thanks so much for treating me like an invisible and worthless interruption to your conversation, Safeway dudes. You're not cool.

Rude and strange employees. Will make strange comments and make me feel uncomfortable. I wish there's another grocery store in Orinda. There's a white blonde old woman that works there as a check out person who has horrible attitude and shouldn't be working in customer service.

Well, it never fails. Safeway is under staffed, long lines, and pretty much a drag to shop there. I sometimes need a quick item and I regret going! Diablo Foods is the place to shop. More expensive but worth it. Enjoy tasty coffee or tea, and a great meat and seafood counter with butchers who actually know their job. They make shopping a no hassle, enjoyable experience. Always plenty of friendly staff, who help load your food on the conveyor belt, and offer to take it to your car. Worth every extra dollar spent hands down.

The staff members are nice however this is a difficult store to shop at if you are ever in a hurry. Always a line and understaffed. There is a better selection at the Moraga and Lafayette stores. I am not going to this Safeway again .

I am so impressed by this Safeway! I cannot say enough good things about them. Super helpful staff and very well stocked!

It is consistently my worst grocery shopping experience in the East Bay. If I didn't live near here I would definitely not ever go in here. It's small it's bad service and it's always long lines to check out. The busier the time of day the less the checkers and there is no self service.
