Great food and service, I always get their Szechwan Prawns. Excellent setting, onion appetizers are another favorite.

I'm missing something. It's the worst Chinese food ever. I've had good Chinese and this isn't it. The stars are for good service, ambience, location and easy, free parking.

Now I've seen it spelled 'Szechuan' and 'Sichuan', but I never understood how a restaurant decides to spell it. Presumably it comes from how they spelled it in the old country or maybe by what name the liquor license is registered. They spell it 'Szechwan' here, and I say more power to them. If I open my own Chinese restaurant, I'll just call it 'Bun Yo Tun' 'cause it gonna be spicy. I was on my way to Briones Reservoir to try the Ousman Trail for a brisk hike. But I was starving and really didn't know Orinda well, especially on the northern side of 24. This family-run restaurant showed up on my Yelp search, and I found it in the shopping area in Orinda Village. I came in with zero expectations and frankly thought what I had was good, taste and value. They were offering their extensive Lunch Specials menu when I arrived (photo: I settled on the $14.25 Spicy Eggplant Shrimp Lunch. Arriving first was a cup of Hot & Sour Soup which came fully spiced with slivers of tofu (photo: My main plate came with a scoop of brown rice, a tiny salad, a couple of deep-fried wonton crisps. The eggplant shrimp had plenty of flavor and kick. I didn't bun my tun, but it was satisfying. FOOD - 4 stars...dishes you expect but with solid execution AMBIANCE - 4 stars...light and spacious enough SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty efficient TOTAL - 4 stars....Szechwan it is then RELATED - Exploring east of the Caldecott Tunnel? Soooo good for what I remember as "old school" Chinese food! I used to go here as a child with my family. decades ago...it's even better than I remember it -- the food was super fresh (especially the veggies in the mu shu!), perfectly seasoned, and lots of good options at good prices! The service was really good and kind folks working there, definitely will be back soon.

Showed up hot! The prettiest delivery food I've seen! Will definitely be back again! (Or order takeout again!)

Finally found a great Chinese food restaurant in the East Bay. We ordered orange chicken, beef & broccoli, chow mein and pot stickers. Everything was fresh and delish. Looking forward to ordering from them again!

We found Szechwan in Orinda online after sticker shock at most Chinese places in Oakland. The beef chow main was a bit dry and kind of boring, meat was chewy. The generals chicken was sweet and tasty, not at all spicy as noted in the menu. The mushy vegetable was fine. Service was very friendly and they were busy so I'm sure they have good local patronage. Not sure we'll be back.

Everything in this restaurant is delicious, I love their soups are very flavorful and rich. I also enjoy the ambiance very calm clean and they are always nice, I have never felt like if not at home. They are always cheerful and makes me feel like am home. I always go there I must have the sizzling rice soup. I order so much I always bring home. Portions are very generous. Sometimes people place the wrong order and they send me home with extra meals. I have to go because I need to start driving their way.

Worst "Szechuan" Food we have had ever. It was limp (deep fried) shrimp with a super sweet and sticky sauce. Although it had the spice emoji next to it (number 22) there was not even a hit of spice. My husband had a completely different chicken dish - with the same sauce! The tea was ONE bag in the entire huge pot of water. The "fried" rice was regular rice with a tiny bit of, what looked like bamboo shoots, not what I know as fried ride. Horrid, never again. This place used to be good! We were also pretty much ignored once we had the food. The place was not busy at lunchtime - this should have been an indicator.....

Great meet up spot for friends opposite ends of the Caldecott tunnel. Plenty of parking. Very attentive staff, food was fantastic. Glad we found this hidden gem. We will be coming more often. I especially liked the Szechwan beef plate it was very good! One thing that would be nice to see next time is to have some soft music playing, would get a bit quiet in there at times

This could be the best Chinese food in the east bay. They are always consistent and accurate, and just plain delicious! Love the honey walnut shrimp, to die for. You really can't go wrong with any of their dishes.

Very solid place for no-action Orinda. I like that there are a few good places on this side of 24, and between this and a few others, like Geppetto's, we are living in style. Very family friendly place run by what appears to be a family of grade A entrepreneurs. I really think the food is great and this has become our go-to Chinese now in Lamorinda. Thank you to the owners for making your place so special.
