On our way up to Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, stopped by this establishment for some lunch. Small, hole in the wall like place but truly the good quality meal we had in a long time. The server and chef are Japanese. The server was friendly and patient, provide with good service. Although there were no kids meal, she provided with a fork and kids plate. The meal was quite pricey based on location and portion. However, it made up on service and quality. The sashimi fish were thick and meaty. Money well spent in the middle of nowhere. Definitely stop again while driving through 14 fwy in Palmade.

This was the first restaurant we fell in love with, when we moved to the area several years ago. It has remained our favorite. We appreciated the authenticity of the menu and preparation as well as consistently fresh and delicious fish. The quality of the fish and their menu in general rivals the best sushi restaurants in Los Angeles. We loved chef Masa, and were very saddened by his passing. He brought talent, dedication, passion, and commitment to his craft. We are so happy that his wife Mika is carrying on the torch. She and her wonderful staff are ensuring that the patrons are getting exceptional dining experience in the AV. They are thoughtful, caring, and kind. The sushi continues to be top notch. My husband and I, as well as our 6-year-old daughter, recommended it highly!

The thing I like is Masa used to go to the fish market three times a week and the only shushi resturant where the uni was fresher was quality Seafood in Redondo Beach where the uni was still Alive so yes I highly recommend this place and Mika is handling her business

First time back since the closing and loss of Chef Massa. We went for lunch and they no longer have the full menu. The lunch menu was nice and had good selections. The miso soup is the best we've had. The service is impeccable as always. Same intimate, comfortable setting with just a few tables. The sushi was fresh and tasty, just not the same as we remember. We didn't feel like we were having the same special meal. Maybe it's the lunch menu, but the temperature of the fish wasn't as perfect and the roll just wasn't as memorable as before. We will try again for dinner with the full menu.

This place was recommended to us a couple of times, so we stopped in on a weeknight without reservations. We were able to be seated immediately. The atmosphere in the restaurant is phenomenal, it feels like you've stepped out of the desert of the AV into a authentic sushi bar in LA or even Japan. The staff were all very friendly and informative with any questions we had. The sushi was generous portions sizes and deliciously prepared. The sushi dinner allowed us to sample a variety of different fish, and we ordered some mackerel sushi on the side. The tuna and yellowfin weren't for me, but the albacore was probably the best single bite of sushi I've ever had. Biggest knock would be that the prices absolutely reflect the quality of product and service. Definitely not somewhere I would recommend for a quick bite or a regular occurrence (unless of course you're wealthier than I ?) but on special occasions, Shogun is truly an excellent experience right here in our own backyard.Parking: Tiny lot in front, we street parked, there's a large lot across the street

Still sad about losing the original chef but they're keeping his memory alive with great, fresh food and excellent service!

Shogun Sushi is a small restaurant that you could be completely forgiven for missing as you drive past on an unlit evening.I'd encourage you not to do so.This quiet, clean, unrushed and utterly unpretentious establishment has seemingly one focus, and that is the quality of the sushi they prepare. I enjoyed a spicy tuna roll that was spot on in its subtlety and focus on the flavor of the tuna, something only done at restaurants not motivated to hide their lesser quality ingredients with an overabundance of heat.Likewise the salmon roll with scallop was a subtle and well-integrated dish, made carefully, and presented well.My appetite only permitted me to try the two rolls, but I'm now eager to go back with friends. There are many paths to disappointment and regret whilst attempting sushi in the AV. You may spend just a bit more here, but you will feel better about yourself (and likely just feel better) after you dine here.

Not only was the food fresh and prepared as delicious as possible, the setting was as enjoyable and the service a full, 5 stars. The server helped when it came to picking sake and food & everything was spot on, they went so far as to ask us what tastes we like to make sure we got what we wanted. Thank you!

August 11th 2023, it's been a long time since I've been here two and a half years. I heard the owner is gone now. Ordered some food and not the same anymore. The only thing good is the eggplant tempura, the shrimp and calamari tempura not that good. The salmon I ordered with the three item was undercoat and the other salmon was okay and the California roll was okay. All in all not the same anymore without the original chef. But will come back only to order the eggplant tempura that's it that's the only one I like. Sorry about this rating was not expecting this.
