Got the "The Original" chicken and rice plate with breast and thigh meat. Both the breast and thigh were a bit drier than one would expect from Hainanese boiled chicken. Possibly a bit overcooked. The broth was pretty savory, but decidedly one note. The rice didn't have much flavor by itself. After the first few bites, it starts tasting bland. I had high expectations for the classic thigh meat with ginger scallion sauce. Chicken was juicy and well seasoned, rice was good, pickled veggies was tasty as well. The ginger scallion sauce was quite disappointing though. Was expecting a much higher umami flavor and was instead met with a very dull ginger flavor. Sauce didn't seem freshly made and seemed like it came out of a jar.

I've ordered from Rooster & Rice a few times via Doordash and really enjoyed the quality of the food. It feels like a clean, simple meal with really delicious sauces for a splash of more intense flavor. I could have sworn they used to use only compostable packaging, but it looks like the entree is in plastic now. Alas. Still recommend!
